The Iberia Visa Signature® Card isn't talked about as often as its British Airways-branded counterpart, but it should be. With the ability to earn 3x on flight purchases, a discount on airfare, and an annual $1,000 airfare discount voucher, the card has quite a few perks for its sub-$100 annual fee.
Let's go over the pros and cons of the card, the rewards you can expect to earn, and the benefits that the Iberia Visa offers so you can see if this is the right airline credit card for you.
- 3X Avios per $1 spent on purchases with Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL
- 2X Avios per $1 spent on hotel accommodations
- 1X Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchases

Iberia Visa Welcome Offer
New applicants for the Iberia Visa can earn 75,000 bonus Avios after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. This bonus tends to remain the same across all of Chase's cards earning Avios, including the British Airways Visa Signature® Card and Aer Lingus Visa Signature® Card, but we do occasionally see variations.
As far as bonuses go, this is a pretty hefty offering. In recent AwardWallet user redemptions, the average value Avios came to 3.03¢ each when redeeming for flights. That makes 75,000 worth $2,250, though the minimum spend to earn the bonus is higher than you'll see on some other cards.

Iberia Visa Benefits
The Iberia Visa Signature® Card is issued by Chase, which means it offers a complimentary DoorDash membership and limited insurance protections. Aside from this, the card also offers a few airline-specific perks, most notably the 10% discount available on all Iberia flights.
10% discount on airfare
Aside from the ability to earn excellent rewards on airfare purchases, the 10% flight discount is the card's best benefit. This is thanks to the unlimited nature of the discount, which gives you 10% off any Iberia flight purchases made at Iberia.com/chase10. This is in contrast to the 10% discount offered by the British Airways Visa Card, whose 10% discount is limited to U.S. departures only.
The 10% discount is valid for either one-way or round-trip bookings and can be used for up to nine passengers booked on the same reservation, though the cardholder must be flying. It's important to note that the 10% only applies to airfare — not taxes, fees, or carrier charges. It also doesn't apply to partner bookings.

Annual airfare discount voucher
Each year that you spend $30,000 on your card, you'll receive a voucher valid for $1,000 off two tickets for Iberia flights. These can be in any class of travel, but the flight must be operated by Iberia. All transactions must post on or before December 31 to qualify for the calendar year. Once you've hit the $30,000 threshold, you'll receive an email within six weeks containing your voucher code.
If you travel with a companion, this can be a significant benefit, especially on low-cost economy flights. However, single travelers are left in the dust here since the voucher is only valid when purchasing at least two tickets.
Trip insurance
Plenty of people choose to purchase trip insurance when they travel, whether because it's required or just for their peace of mind. However, many credit cards include complimentary travel insurance as part of their benefits. The Iberia Visa Signature® Card is one of these. In order to qualify for coverage, you'll need to use your card to pay for some or all of your trip. Insurance will then kick in automatically.
- Baggage delay insurance: Receive reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred as a result of delayed luggage. Valid for delays over six hours, up to $100 per day for three days at most.
- Lost luggage reimbursement insurance plan: Charge the fare to your ticket and be reimbursed up to $3,000 if your carry-on or checked luggage is lost or damaged by the carrier.
Purchase and shopping protections
- Purchase protection: Covers purchases for 120 days; receive up to $500 per claim for damage or theft with an account maximum of $50,000.
- Extended warranty: Extends the manufacturer's U.S. warranty by an additional year on warranties of up to three years.
DoorDash membership
The final benefit on our list is one provided by nearly every Chase card: a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership. This membership is valid for one year and applies to both DoorDash and Caviar purchases. You'll get $0 delivery fees and lower service fees as a member, though you'll need to activate by by January 31, 2025.
Be aware that once your complimentary year is up, you'll be automatically enrolled in the monthly membership and will need to cancel if you don't want to pay.
No checked baggage benefit
Most airline credit cards offer a free checked bag for cardholders. That benefit is conspicuously absent on the Iberia Visa. However, getting free checked bags on Iberia flights might not provide substantial value, unless you fly to or through Spain regularly.

Iberia Visa Earning Rates
The Iberia Visa Signature® Card earns 3x per $1 spent on all flight purchases with Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL. You'll also earn 2x per $1 spent on all accommodations booked directly with the hotel. All other purchases earn 1x per $1 spent.
Earning 3x is notable in that it matches the earn rate of flexible rewards cards like the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card and American Express® Green Card. It also beats out competitors like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (which earns just 2x on travel purchases outside Chase's dedicated travel portal) and British Airways Visa Signature® Card (which will only give you 3x on British Airways flights, not its Avios partner airlines).
3x earning is downright generous for an airline credit card, but, as always, earning flexible point currencies tends to be a better strategy.

Redeeming Avios With the Iberia Visa
Flights
It doesn't matter whether you fly with Iberia once a year, twice a year, or never. The point of this card is that it earns Avios. This is its real strength. For those who are unfamiliar, Avios is the loyalty currency for several airlines, including Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Qatar Airways.
What does this mean for redemptions?
Essentially, this means that you can move your Avios seamlessly between all programs — for free. Not only does this grant you maximum flexibility, but it also allows you to take advantage of each program's sweet spots. Want to fly from Boston (BOS) to Madrid (MAD) in business class? Iberia will charge you just 34,000 miles one-way:

Or, for example, there are times when one website will charge you more than another for the exact same flight. Here's a nonstop option from Dallas (DFW) to Doha (DOH) aboard Qatar Airways' excellent Qsuite business class:

You'll pay 70,000 Avios and nearly $500 for this booking, but take a look at how the same flight prices over on British Airways' website:

Since you can move Avios with ease, it's simple to move themover to British Airways' program and quickly save yourself $400.

Upgrades
It's also possible to use your Avios to upgrade Iberia flights. If you're booked in a Y, B, or H fare class, you can choose to upgrade to either premium economy or business class. There must be space available in the cabin. Here's how much it'll cost:
Between Madrid and... | Economy to premium economy (off-peak/peak) | Premium economy to business (off-peak/peak) | Economy to business (off-peak/peak) |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco | 10,500/18,750 | 10,500/18,750 | 21,250/37,500 |
Boston, Chicago, New York | 8,500/15,000 | 8,500/15,000 | 17,000/30,000 |
Other redemptions
It's also possible to redeem your Avios in other ways, though we don't recommend doing so as it represents a poor value for your rewards. Options include:
- Hotels
- Rental cars
- Tours
Application Restrictions and Strategy
The Iberia Visa Signature® Card is a Chase credit card, which means it's subject to Chase's notorious 5/24 restriction. This rule is based on how many cards you've opened in the last two years. If the total is more than five, you'll receive an automatic denial.
Note that many business credit cards won't be included in your 5/24 count. This is because most business credit cards don't show up on your credit report.
You're only eligible for the 75,000 bonus Avios if you don't currently have this card and haven't received a bonus on this card within the last 24 months. This means that if you've applied for the card previously, you'll want to close it and ensure that it's been at least 24 months since your last bonus before re-applying.
Fortunately, your eligibility for the Iberia Visa isn't affected by holding one of Chase's other Avios-earning cards, such as the [CC_AW_ShoprtName slug=BAVisa] or the Aer Lingus Visa. Since each of these cards earns Avios that are interchangeable, it can be quite easy to quickly stack up a balance of Avios.
Lastly, know that Chase is unlikely to approve you for more than two credit cards in a 30-day period. Bear this in mind if you've applied for another account recently.

Final Thoughts
The Iberia Visa probably isn't at the top of your list if you're looking for an airline credit card, but it's certainly one worth considering. This is especially true if you're heavily invested in the Avios program since its earnings and welcome offer can help you build your stash. Otherwise, those who frequently travel on Iberia will appreciate the 10% discount it offers on flights, as well as the elevated bonus points you'll receive when using your card to pay.
- 3X Avios per $1 spent on purchases with Iberia, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL
- 2X Avios per $1 spent on hotel accommodations
- 1X Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchases
