If you are a cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express, you have a suite of statement credits at your disposal. That's a good thing, considering the substantial $695 annual fee (Rates & Fees). Most credits are tailored toward travelers, like the hotel and airline fee credits. However, there are a few additional credits that are useful when you're at home.
If you want to exercise more, you're in luck — Card Members can access up to $300 in statement credits each calendar year on a digital or club membership at Equinox. Enrollment is required, and terms apply.
Here's how you can use the Amex Platinum $300 Equinox credit — even if you don't live near an Equinox location.

What Is Equinox?
If you aren't familiar, Equinox is a premium health and fitness space founded in 1991. You might already be acquainted with the luxury lifestyle brand, even if you've never been to Equinox. Brands under the Equinox Group umbrella include SoulCycle and Pure Yoga, both of which are popular among fitness enthusiasts.
There are 110 clubs across the U.S., Canada, and the UK, each offering classes, coaching, pilates, and more. Select locations also have spas where you can get treatments.

An Equinox+ membership costs $40 per month, or $480 per year. So, you can essentially cover 7.5 months of membership with your credit if you go this route. Meanwhile, an Equinox all-access membership to 80+ clubs across the U.S. (excluding several locations in NYC and SoCal) costs $325 per month.

How to Use Amex Platinum Equinox Credit
To take advantage of the $300 Amex Platinum Equinox credit, you'll need to be a cardholder of the Amex Platinum. Once you have that out of the way, go to platinum.equinox.com to enroll in the promotion.
It's worth emphasizing that enrollment in the Equinox benefit must be completed through the platinum.equinox.com landing page. Credits will not trigger if you subscribe through other platforms, such as the app or directly on the Equinox site.
Unlike some card offerings, Amex doesn't restrict this credit to new Equinox members. However, if you are a former member of Equinox or a former Equinox+ subscriber, you'll need to email hello@equinoxplus.com to enroll. Keep in mind that you'll only get one credit per account per year, even if you have authorized users on your account.

On the website, existing members will sign in to their accounts, and new members will create a new account and select a membership plan. Once enrolled, use your card to pay for your monthly Equinox+ digital subscription or Equinox club membership fee.
Statement credits should post to your account within a few days, but it could take up to eight weeks. Memberships purchased through the Equinox mobile app won't count toward the credit, so be sure to sign up online or in person.

Equinox+ digital subscription
The Equinox+ digital subscription is one of the best value ways to utilize your Equinox credit. The app offers a variety of classes for almost any fitness level, including:
- Equinox classes
- Guided meditations
- PURE Yoga
- Guided treadmill and outdoor running and walking classes
- Pilates
- Strength training and targeted recovery
You can also sync your account with Apple HealthKit to track your progress and metrics. Although you can't access Equinox club locations, you can get a heavily discounted Equinox-worthy workout by utilizing your credit on an Equinox+ subscription.
How to Use Amex Platinum Equinox Credit for Spa
A few savvy Amex Platinum Card Members found a loophole to use the Equinox credit for spa treatments like massages. They activated an Equinox+ digital 7-day free trial, booked a massage, and paid using their Amex Platinum, then received statement credits of up to $300 back. They then cancelled the free trial before being charged and never had to pay for an Equinox membership.
Unfortunately, it appears the loophole has been closed. Amex and Equinox are reportedly no longer allowing spa services to be reimbursed under the Equinox credit. User reports are iffy — while it could still work, make sure you're fine paying for a $200 massage if it ends up not working. If you'd rather not take the risk, you're better off using the credit towards an Equinox membership.

Final Thoughts
The high annual fee on the Amex Platinum can only be justified if you're taking full advantage of the available statement credits and other cardholder benefits. If you like at-home workouts, you'll be able to cover a large portion of an Equinox+ membership using your Amex Platinum Equinox credit. If you'd rather go to a physical location, you'll still pay a lot of money throughout the year, but at least you won't be leaving money on the table.
