Offers for the Citi Custom Cash® Card are not available through this site. Some offers may have expired. Please see our card marketplace for available offers

It's official — the Citi Custom Cash® Card is officially closed to new applications. After some rumors circulating in the days leading up to the announcement, Citi confirmed that the card would no longer accept new applications as of May 28, 2026. That means Citi now offers just one standard cash back card, in addition to its co-branded Costco credit cards.

Here's what you should know if you are a Citi Custom Cash cardholder, or if you were planning on applying any time soon.

Citi Custom Cash Closes Applications

If you were working on building a Citi quadfecta, you might have to change your plans. As of May 28, 2026, the Citi Custom Cash is closed for new applicants. However, if you are a current cardholder, you can continue using the card as you normally would.

At least for now, its benefits and earning potential are not changing. When you go to the card page on Citi's website, you'll see the following message:

As a reminder, Citi Custom Cash cardholders earn 5% cash back in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent (1% cash back thereafter), and 1% cash back on all other purchases, plus an additional 4% cash back on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked on Citi Travel portal.

This made it a fantastic option for purchases that typically fall outside the bonus earning categories of other cards. For instance, if you spend several hundred dollars on gym memberships each month, you could use the card exclusively for your memberships to earn 5% back, while most other cards would earn just 1-2%.

User reports indicate that you can still product change to the Citi Custom Cash. If you've had a different Citi card, like the Citi Double Cash® Card (Rates & Fees), for at least a year and you really want the Citi Custom Cash, it could be worth contacting Citi to see if you can complete a product change.

If you're successful, let us know!

Bottom Line

In all honesty, this one stings. The Citi Custom Cash might not have been packed with benefits, but the opportunity to earn 5% cash back on up to $500 spent each month with no annual fee is hard to beat. The card offered an easy and effective way to fill any gaps in your overall credit card portfolio.

If you aren't already a cardholder, it's now much more challenging to become one. Only time will tell how long you'll be able to product change an existing Citi account to the Citi Custom Cash.
