We hope you enjoyed these perks, as they'll be gone soon — American Airlines and Hyatt are ending their preferred partnership. While you still have time to enjoy its benefits, you'll need to act quickly. Here's what to know.
American Airlines and Hyatt End Partnership
Almost two years ago, American Airlines announced it was expanding its partnership with Hyatt. This was great news for elites in either program looking for reciprocal benefits. But today, American Airlines announced it will not renew its contract with Hyatt when it expires in November. In other words, this lucrative partnership barely lasted for two full program years.
What does this update mean for members loyal to either program? The good news — there will be no interruption to earning, selecting, or redeeming eligible benefits for the remainder of either program's current earning year. The bad news? The deadline to be eligible for these “uninterrupted” perks is rapidly approaching.
You need to link your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts by 11:59 p.m. CT on November 15, 2026, to:
- Continue earning World of Hyatt awards through
Loyalty Points Rewards - Continue earning AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards through December 31, 2026.
That means you should link your accounts immediately (if you haven't already) if you think you'll earn enough Loyalty Points or qualifying nights by the end of either program year to unlock benefits through this partnership.
For instance, when you earn 100,000 Loyalty Points, you unlock World of Hyatt Discoverist status as a Loyalty Point Reward. At higher Loyalty Point tiers, you could select Hyatt Explorist status or a Category 1-4 free night award as a benefit. For hardcore AAdvantage loyalists, making it to 1 million Loyalty Points allows you to choose a Category 1-7 free night award, which can be incredibly valuable.
On the flip side, when you spend 20 qualifying nights with World of Hyatt, you can select two preferred seat coupons on American Airlines as a Milestone Reward. At 40 nights, you can select two Main Cabin Extra seat coupons, and at 70 nights, you could select AAdvantage Gold status. The higher you climb with Hyatt, the higher you could potentially climb with American Airlines without ever stepping foot on a plane.
If you hit any of these thresholds after November 15 and your accounts aren't already linked, you won't be able to select any of these benefits.
Luckily, the partnership isn't going away entirely. AAdvantage members can continue to earn 500 AAdvantage miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible stays by providing their AAdvantage number at check-in.
