General Motors just announced a major update to its GM Rewards loyalty program along with a new co-branded credit card issued by Barclays. The redesigned program promises to offer more flexibility and value for GM customers, including new redemption options and more ways to earn points on both everyday and GM-specific spending.

Here's what to know about this new card and program revamp.

Details of the New GM Rewards™ Mastercard®

The new Barclays-issued GM Rewards™ Mastercard® officially launches today, May 20, 2025. Here are the key benefits:

  • 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days
  • Up to 10x points on GM purchases (7x from the card, plus up to 3x for GM Rewards members)
  • 3x points on all other purchases
  • Flexible redemptions for new GM vehicles, GM Financial account balances, parts, accessories, and services
  • Unlimited point earnings
  • Low intro APR for 9 months on eligible GM purchases over $499 made within 30 days of account opening
  • World Elite Mastercard benefits

Updates to the GM Rewards Loyalty Program

In addition to the new card launch, GM is redesigning its program to benefit all members. Here's how the new program will work:

  • 3x points per $1 on eligible GM purchases
  • 1 point per $5 on new and certified pre-owned vehicle purchases
  • Redemptions expanded to include OnStar plans, Super Cruise, and GM Financial balances
  • Ability to transfer or gift points to other members
  • No redemption caps or vehicle restrictions
  • Points can now be stacked with GM Family First discounts (for eligible customers)

Later this year, GM and Barclays plan to launch a small business version of the card with even higher earning rates on GM purchases and expanded redemption options.

Our Take

While it won’t appeal to most points and miles enthusiasts, the new GM Rewards™ Mastercard® could offer solid value for loyal GM customers — especially those planning a vehicle purchase or who frequently service their car at GM dealerships. 7x earnings on GM purchases plus 3x points on everyday purchases makes this version more competitive than previous versions of the GM card (issued by Capital One and Marcus by Goldman Sachs).
