Marriott’s recent announcement of instant status matches and points transfers between Marriott & SPG accounts has opened up a massive number of new opportunities for loyalty program members.
The advantages of linking accounts are that you’ll receive an instant status match to the corresponding elite tier in the opposing loyalty program, and transfer points between accounts to take advantage of partner transfers and points redemptions previously not possible.
But, before you can enjoy your new elite benefits at Marriott or Starwood, you’ll need to link your Marriott or Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG accounts.
Marriott has made this a cinch by building a new section to its website dedicated to members linking accounts.
Linking Marriott & Starwood Accounts
1. Head over to the new Marriott website for loyalty members.
2. Sign into either your Marriott, Ritz, or SPG account (I’m starting with my SPG account for this example).
3. Sign into your Marriott or Ritz account.
4. Confirm that you want your accounts linked.
5. You’ll receive an email confirming your accounts are now linked.
Success! It’s that easy to link your Marriott and SPG accounts.
If you are not a member of one of the loyalty programs, use the links below to create an account, then follow steps 1 through 4 to connect your accounts and receive a status match.
Final Thoughts
Marriott has made the account linking and status matching process incredibly easy, the whole process takes less than a minute. Points transfers are also now live and unrestricted between rewards programs.
With Marriott not planning on combining the loyalty programs until at least 2018, linking your accounts provides many benefits which we’ll explore in greater depths over the coming days/weeks.
