The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® is a new co-branded card that offers benefits for American flyers. The card has a high annual fee of $350. Still, it includes unique benefits not previously seen on a card, including the ability to earn bonus Loyalty Points just for flying American Airlines.

This “Flight Streak” bonus is worth paying attention to if you're considering the card.

Here's how this new feature works.

How the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card Earns Loyalty Points

First, it's helpful to understand how the card earns Loyalty Points through spending. Loyalty Points count toward AAdvantage elite status, which can unlock benefits like complimentary upgrades, upgraded seating, free checked bags, and more.

Note the Loyalty Points are different than AAdvantage miles, which are redeemable for award flights — and are also earned with the card.

You'll earn 1 Loyalty Point per eligible dollar spent on the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card. There's no limit to the number of Loyalty Points earned from your spending on the card.

Earning Bonus Loyalty Points With the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card Flight Streak

The Flight Streak bonus is one of the more unique features of the Citi AAdvantage Globe Card. The benefit offers up to 15,000 bonus Loyalty Points per calendar year, just for regularly flying on American Airlines.

Here's how it works.

For every four qualifying American Airlines flights, you'll earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points. You can earn this bonus up to three times per year, meaning 12 flights could earn a total of 15,000 Loyalty Points.

There are some stipulations to keep in mind:

  • Only flights flown after becoming a Citi AAdvantage Globe Card cardholder count
  • Flight segments are treated separately, so a one-way flight with two legs would be considered two flights
  • Award flights don't qualify
  • Only American and American Eagle flights credited to your AAdvantage account
  • Flights don't need to be purchased with the card to qualify

For context, American Airlines Gold status requires 40,000 Loyalty Points. That means earning the full 15,000-point Flight Streak bonus could get you nearly 38% of the way toward entry-level elite status in a single year.

Note that this Citi AAdvantage Globe Card Flight Streak bonus stacks with the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® — which offers 10,000 bonus points when you earn 50,000 Loyalty Points, and a further 10,000 bonus points when you earn 90,000 Loyalty Points, each year.

These bonuses apply during the AAdvantage status qualification year, which runs from March 1 through the end of February.

Bottom Line

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® Flight Streak bonus offers a way for frequent American Airlines flyers to accelerate their elite earnings. If you value American status, earning a bonus of 15,000 Loyalty Points just for flying 12 paid segments on American or American Eagle each year is a nice bonus.

Plus, if you hold other American credit cards in your wallet that offer stackable Loyalty Points bonuses, it'll help you earn status even faster. Earning one Loyalty Point per eligible dollar spent is nice if you value American Airlines status, but remember the opportunity cost from not spending on more rewarding credit cards.
