When Marriott acquired citizenM in 2025, MycitizenM+ quietly became one of the cheapest ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy® Gold Elite Status. That shortcut is now closing.

Marriott has told members that the $170-a-year MycitizenM+ subscription will no longer be available to purchase or renew as of November 17, 2026, as the company moves the brand fully into Marriott Bonvoy. Here is what we know so far and what happens to current members.

Marriott Is Ending the MycitizenM+ Membership — What Happens Next?

Marriott announced its plan to acquire the citizenM brand on April 28, 2025. At the time, citizenM operated 36 hotels across more than 20 cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, with three more under construction. The deal closed in July 2025, and the integration moved unusually fast.

By November 20, 2025, every citizenM property was bookable on Marriott.com and in the Bonvoy app, earning 10 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar for base members plus one Elite Night Credit per night. Each citizenM hotel is still owned and operated by the former citizenM parent company, now renamed Another Star, under long-term franchise agreements with Marriott.

MyCitizenM+ is a subscription product that gives you exclusive citizenM perks, like a 15% discount on direct bookings and free co-working. When Marriott acquired citizenM, this subscription product added Marriott Gold Elite status as a benefit. However, this affordable loophole to get Marriott status is closing.

Current subscribers received an email announcing that Marriott will sunset the MycitizenM+ membership as it further integrates citizenM into Marriott Bonvoy. Starting November 17, 2026, you will no longer be able to purchase or renew MycitizenM+ memberships. However, any annual membership set to auto-renew on or before November 16 will renew as usual for one last year.

Marriott hasn't said anything will replace the subscription, and it's doubtful anything will. If your renewal date falls after November 17, you should expect the membership to lapse at the end of your current term.

What the MycitizenM+ Membership Includes Today

After the Bonvoy integration, the price for MycitizenM+ rose to $170 a year. Here is the current list of benefits:

  • 15% off retail rates on direct citizenM bookings
  • Up to 30% off during citizenM sales
  • 15% off food and drink at citizenM hotels (breakfast excluded)
  • 15% off societyM meeting rooms
  • Free co-working at every citizenM hotel except Taipei
  • Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for the length of the membership, once your accounts are linked

That last perk is arguably the most valuable. Gold Elite status comes with:

  • 25% bonus points on stays
  • Enhanced room upgrades when available
  • 2 p.m. late checkout
  • A welcome gift of points.

At citizenM hotels specifically, Gold members receive a 250-point welcome gift.

What Current MycitizenM+ Members Should Do Now

Check your renewal date

Log in to your MycitizenM+ account and look at when your membership renews. If the renewal falls before November 17, 2026, and auto-renew is on, you will get one more full year of discounts and Gold Elite status. If it falls after that date, your membership ends at the end of the current term.

Decide whether a final year is worth $170

If you stay at citizenM hotels a few times a year, the 15% room discount alone can cover the fee, and the Gold status is a bonus on every other Marriott stay. If citizenM is an occasional stop for you, compare the cost with a Marriott credit card like the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card, which carries a $250 (Rates & Fees) but includes Gold Elite status, 15 Elite Night Credits, and a welcome bonus worth far more than the fee difference.

Consider joining before the cutoff if you have not already

New memberships are still available until November 16, 2026. Based on Marriott's wording, a membership purchased by that date should run its full one-year term and carry Gold Elite benefits into late 2027. If that appeals to you, do not wait until the last minute, and keep the confirmation email in case anything about the final-year handling changes.

Other Ways To Get Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status

With the citizenM shortcut going away, a credit card is likely your fastest way to Gold status:

In addition, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card cardholders receive Marriott Bonvoy® Platinum Elite Status, which is a tier higher than Gold. Or, you can simply stay at Marriott hotels to earn status the old-fashioned way, which requires 25 nights.

Bottom Line

Marriott is ending the MycitizenM+ membership on November 17, 2026. Memberships that renew before that date get one final year of perks. The citizenM discounts were nice, but the real loss for award travelers is the $170 path to Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, which disappears with the program. If you want one more year of those benefits, check your renewal date or join before the cutoff.
