Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has been a hot topic lately — to put it lightly. While there's a lot to look forward to later this month (1:1 conversions from Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles), there's something brand-new that you can take advantage of now. Starting today, you can book Oman Air awards through Mileage Plan.

Where can you go with Oman Air, and what does it cost to redeem Mileage Plan miles for an Oman Air award? Let's take a look.

Oman Air Awards Bookable Through Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

This news comes as somewhat of a surprise, but mainly because it's been on the back burner for quite some time; other news has taken center stage. Later this year, Oman Air is expected to join the Oneworld alliance and become the alliance's 14th full-time member. In other words, it was only a matter of time before Oman Air awards started populating Oneworld partner programs.

With that said, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan appears to be the first Oneworld airline to get access to Oman Air award space. Now, if you run a search through Mileage Plan for a route operated by the small Muscat-based carrier, you'll see Oman Air itineraries. Better yet, availability is generally pretty good throughout its entire network.

If you're curious about where Oman Air flies, the route map below should help. From its hub in Muscat (MCT), Oman Air flies to a handful of European destinations, several Asian destinations, across the Middle East, and even to Tanzania.

Like other Middle Eastern airlines, Oman Air is known for its exceptional on-board product. While its First Class product might no longer be a bookable option, you can't go wrong by splurging for business class.

What does Mileage Plan charge for Oman Air awards?

Earlier this year, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan updated its award charts. Now, all awards follow a trio of distance-based charts. Thus, these tables apply to Oman Air awards.

And that's part of what makes Oman Air awards look intriguing. You can snag seats on some of the carrier's longest routes for a bargain. For example, you can fly between Frankfurt (FRA) and Muscat (MCT) for 22.5K Mileage Plan miles in economy or 45K in business class.

If you don't want to make Oman your final destination, you could fly between Frankfurt and Bangkok (BKK) for 37.5K miles in economy or 75K in business class. That's a fairly reasonable price for such a long journey.

However, Mileage Plan really shines on short-haul awards. For instance, the hop between Muscat and Doha (DOH) is available for as little as 7.5K Alaska miles. This flight can sometimes get pricey, so it's a great option to keep in your back pocket.
