When Hyatt acquired Mr & Mrs Smith in late 2023, details were a bit sparse. But now that the integration of this new brand into the World of Hyatt program has been completed, here's everything you should know — including how to earn and redeem points on these stays, plus all the benefits you can expect at these neat properties.

What Is Mr & Mrs Smith?

Mr & Mrs Smith (note the lack of periods) is a collection of independent luxury hotels around the world. Through the Mr & Mrs Smith booking platform, you can book one-of-a-kind stays at nearly 2,300 posh hotels and villas. Here's what the brand has to say about itself:

“Our carefully curated (and responsibly sourced) collection now includes hotels in the sky (if you’ve never woken up in a treehouse, we can change that), hotels in caves, hotels above water, hotels underwater (well, partially), hotels a million miles away, hotels on your doorstep…”

Mr & Mrs Smith is both a collection and a booking platform, offering a way to find and book these unique, luxurious properties. However, you shouldn't think of Mr & Mrs Smith as a “hotel brand” the way you would think of Andaz or Park Hyatt, as those brands provide uniformity across their properties. As Mr & Mrs Smith's properties are all unique, stays can vary as much as the locations do.

And while the number 2,300 sounds incredible, only around 1,000 properties currently participate in World of Hyatt. Hyatt has announced more hotels will join “on a rolling quarterly basis” in the future, though.

It's also worth pointing out that Hyatt's now-defunct partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) provided access to roughly 350 properties. The now 1,000+ hotels are already a significant expansion to Hyatt's footprint with the addition of Mr & Mrs Smith properties into the fold, especially since many of those now bookable hotels are in locations Hyatt had no presence before.

Locations of Mr & Mrs Smith Properties

The best way to get a complete list of Mr & Mrs Smith properties that participate in the World of Hyatt program is to head to Hyatt's website just like you normally do and filter the map by brand. You can always go directly to Mr & Mrs Smith website, but that will display a list of all properties within the portfolio, regardless of whether they are part of World of Hyatt.

Hyatt's nifty functionality shows a map with dots representing all properties available in that area. Zooming in or clicking on the “H” logo will show the names and locations of specific properties and its details.

Benefits at Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels

Now that Hyatt has fully brought these hotels into its program, many of the benefits you can expect to enjoy when staying at other hotels in Hyatt's portfolio are also available to members when they stay at Mr & Mrs Smith hotels throughout the world. Because of this brand's uniqueness, some perks are specific to each hotel, while others will be familiar to World of Hyatt elites.

Smith Extra

When booking a Mr & Mrs Smith property, you'll enjoy a “Smith Extra.” This perk is listed on the property's page at the time of booking, such as a complimentary two-hour visit to the tree sauna when staying at a luxury treehouse in Sweden.

You will enjoy the “Smith Extra” when booking Mr & Mrs Smith properties through World of Hyatt. And that's on top of the Hyatt-based benefits. What benefits, you ask?

World of Hyatt elite benefits

World of Hyatt Globalist members staying at these participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels receive a room upgrade if available at check-in.

For those of us who have grown accustomed to all the niceties of being a Hyatt Globalist — from free daily breakfast for up to two adults and two children, waived resort fees, free parking when on a points stay, and many other perks — stays at Mr & Mrs Smith will feel like a bit of a letdown.

No other in-hotel benefits will be extended to Hyatt elite members. Yes, you read that right: no bottled water, complimentary Wi-Fi, late check-out, etc.

You'll also note that none of your hard-earned Milestone Rewards can be used at these hotels. Guest of Honor Awards, Suite Upgrade Awards, Club Lounge Access Awards, and more importantly, Free Night Awards of any kind — whether earned through status, your credit card, or Brand Explorer — are of no use at Mr & Mrs Smith hotels either, unfortunately.

World of Hyatt point earnings

You'll earn the same number of points at Mr & Mrs Smith properties as you earn at other Hyatt-branded properties. Members earn 5x base points per dollar spent, and you can earn more with your Hyatt status. All of those bonus multipliers for elites will apply for Mr & Mrs Smith stays booked through Hyatt.

If you use The World of Hyatt Credit Card, you can earn up to 9x points per dollar spent — 5x base points plus 4x bonus points for staying at Hyatt hotels and resorts.

Other World of Hyatt benefits

While you can't use any of your earned awards, stays at Mr & Mrs Smith properties (whether on points or paid rates) will count as elite-qualifying nights for Hyatt Milestone Rewards and will help you move up the rungs of elite status.

Hyatt Brand Explorer

Mr & Mrs Smith stays count as a brand for Hyatt Brand Explorer. That means there's another potential checkmark you could earn to help you qualify for a free night award. Every five unique brands you stay at will get you one free night award.

Redeeming World of Hyatt Points With Mr & Mrs Smith

The one bit of good news is that, although you don't get much in the way of benefits when staying at Mr & Mrs Smith properties, you can use your World of Hyatt points to book those stays, at least in those properties that participate in the program.

But that's as far as the good news goes. Any room available to book with cash should be available to book with points through Hyatt's website.

You will notice that you won't see this brand listed on the World of Hyatt free night award tables like other properties. This is because these redemptions are unlike all other brands and are not priced in peak/off-peak category bands. Redemptions at Mr & Mrs Smith instead leverage a dynamic pricing scheme, which essentially means the costlier the night rate is for a cash reservation, the more points it will require to book an award stay at this hotel.

This, sadly, quashes any dream of squeezing outsized value from your World of Hyatt points for the many dreamy destinations and wonderful properties that are now part of the Hyatt family.

There's a silver lining, though: the previous Hyatt-SLH properties had a floor. That meant none of them would price below Category 3 in the standard award charts. Mr & Mrs Smith properties don't have this floor, so if you can find a hotel that's relatively cheap, you should be able to book it for very few points.

For example, nightly rates for the Pulitzer Buenos Aires hover around $100, which makes free night award stays bookable around 8,750 points.

Bottom Line

Hyatt’s addition of Mr & Mrs Smith marks a major expansion of its global footprint, especially in markets where Hyatt previously lacked options. While Globalists won’t receive their usual suite of elite perks, the ability to earn and redeem points — and to unlock a whole new world of unique luxury hotels — makes this a valuable addition to the World of

Hyatt portfolio. Just be prepared for dynamic pricing, limited elite recognition, and no award redemptions like Free Night or Guest of Honor. Still, if you're looking for unique stays and broader destination coverage, Mr & Mrs Smith opens the door.
