Nearly five years ago, American Express opened the doors to the Centurion Lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Ever since, it's been a cozy place to dine and relax at a tremendously busy airport — only one of a few that's not an American Airlines Admirals Club.

Here's what you need to know about the Amex Centurion Lounge CLT, including how to find it, when it's open, and what it looks like inside.

Amex Centurion Lounge CLT Hours and Location

What hours is the Amex Lounge CLT open?

The Centurion Lounge CLT is open to eligible Card Members daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. But if you plan to dine at the lounge, keep in mind that it starts serving breakfast closer to 6:30 a.m. and stops serving dinner closer to 9 p.m.

Where is the Amex Lounge CLT located?

CLT's Centurion Lounge is located at the intersection of Concourses D and E. Above the escalator to the E gates, you'll see a sign with the words “The Centurion.”

Follow the arrows to the branded elevator and proceed to the lounge's entrance on the mezzanine level. From there, a receptionist will check your boarding pass and confirm you hold a card eligible for access.

Amex Centurion CLT guest policy

Amex's restrictive guest policies apply at CLT's Centurion Lounge. Amex Platinum and Business Platinum Card Members must meet an annual $75,000 spending requirement to bring complimentary guests into the lounge.

Card Members who don't meet this spending requirement can pay $50 per adult guest and $30 per child (ages 2-17). Children under two may enter free of charge with the basic Card Member.

Those with an Amex Centurion Card or The American Express Corporate Platinum Card® are entitled to bring up to two complimentary guests into the lounge.

Can you purchase a day pass to the CLT Centurion Lounge?

No. Day passes are not available to non-card members for purchase at the door.

Amex Centurion Lounge CLT Layout

The Centurion Lounge at CLT has two main areas: a primary seating area and a dining area. You'll find chairs around the perimeter of the lounge, which offer the best views of the tarmac. And these seats are better for those traveling in groups.

You'll also find cubicle-style seating in the middle of the lounge, plus a few tables open for small groups near the lounge's busy entry hallway.

Many of these seats offer privacy for individual travelers, but others feature a direct line of sight into the lounge's two primary conference rooms.

And in the back of the lounge — near the dining room and bar — you'll find open seating in swivel chairs and tables for two. This is also where you'll find a self-serve refreshment station.

In the corner of this living room, Amex roped off an area for select guests. While the table placards didn't specify, it's likely a corner just for those with the Amex Centurion Card.

This reserved area is also in front of windows that look down upon CLT's D gates. It's a nice place to hang out if you like watching the ramp activity.

Amex Centurion Lounge CLT Amenities

The Centurion Lounge at CLT isn't as cutting-edge as Amex's newer outposts. It doesn't have outdoor terraces or whiskey bars, but it does have a sufficient amount of amenities for a productive stay. This includes:

  • Shower suites
  • Speedy Wi-Fi
  • Printers, copiers, and business workstations
  • Conference rooms
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Arrival and departure boards
  • Children and family rooms
  • Self-serve food and beverage, plus a premium bar

Amex Centurion Lounge CLT Food and Beverage

If you come to the Amex Centurion Lounge CLT hungry, you'll find a Southern-inspired hot buffet as well as lighter snack items, such as fruit and cookies.

Behind the buffet is the lounge's primary bar. This is where you can grab a handcrafted cocktail, a beer, or a glass of wine. Beverages are complimentary, which is perhaps the best part.

There are also a few self-serve coffee, tea, and water stations located around the lounge. The coffee machines are equipped to dispense lattes, cappuccinos, black coffee, and more.

Final Thoughts

Depending on the time of day you visit the Centurion Lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, it will either be jam-packed to the point you can't find a place to sit — or pleasantly quiet. There's very little in between. Hopefully, your experience bends towards the latter.

But for what it is, the Amex Centurion Lounge at CLT is more than sufficient. It's got beverages aplenty and warm food. More often than not, these offerings are better than what you'll find down below at CLT's D/E food court — or elsewhere in the airport. And for those eligible to get in, that's one of the primary reasons to stop by.
