Small-business expenses add up quickly. A good business credit card can help you turn those costs into rewards, whether that means earning cash back, booking an award flight for a work trip, or using statement credits to cover eligible business purchases. The right card can also make travel days smoother with perks that save time, money, or both.

Here are some of the best travel credit cards for business owners.

The Best Business Cards for Travelers

Before applying, it helps to know which perks are worth prioritizing.

Airport lounge access

Business travel can mean taking calls, answering emails, and squeezing in work between flights. Airport lounges can offer a quieter, more comfortable place to work than a crowded terminal. Many also offer food and beverages, which can save on travel expenses.

Travel protections

Work travel disruptions can get expensive quickly. The right business credit card offers travel protections that can help cover the costs tied to delays, cancellations, lost bags, or other unexpected issues. Depending on the card, that could mean reimbursement for an overnight hotel stay, meals during a long delay, or replacement travel arrangements.

Transfer partners

Some business credit cards earn flexible rewards that transfer to airline and hotel partners. These transfers can help you get more value from your business spending, especially if you know which programs fit your travel habits. Depending on whether you prefer Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, or Capital One miles, one card may be a better match than another.

Credits

The “coupon-ification” of credit cards over the past few years is real, and business cards are not immune. But for some high-annual-fee cards, these credits can deliver savings on travel, office supplies, wireless service, and more.

Earning potential

Finally, rewards on business purchases, travel, or other expenses are a major factor in any business card decision. Strong earning rates can save your business money on future travel redemptions or help you book a more premium experience.

Now, let's dig into the best business credit cards for travelers.

Capital One Venture X Business

If you're a business owner looking for an easy-to-understand card with solid perks, simple earning rates, and premium travel benefits, the Capital One Venture X Business is worth a look.

Airport lounge access: Cardholders get access to Capital One Lounges and a Priority Pass membership. Note: Capital One recently changed guest access for the card.

Travel protections: Venture X Business cardholders are covered by trip delay coverage, primary auto rental collision damage, lost luggage reimbursement, and more.

Transfer partners: Capital One miles can be redeemed through Capital One Travel or transferred to 22 Capital One transfer partners, including British Airways, Wyndham, and more.

Credits: The card also comes with a $300 annual travel credit for bookings through Capital One Travel, which is one of the easiest credits to use. Just note that hotels booked through the portal are considered third-party bookings and therefore won't earn hotel points, elite nights, or get elite benefits.

Earning potential: This card earns 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel, 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Business Travel, and 2X miles on all other purchases.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

Not far behind is the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. As a business owner, I have this card in my wallet and can speak to how it's an excellent card for business travelers who value premium travel perks.

Airport lounge access: I consider this card — along with the personal version — one of the strongest options for lounge access. Cardholders get access to Centurion Lounges, 10 annual Delta Sky Club visits when flying Delta, Escape Lounges, and Priority Pass lounges.

Travel protections: Cardmembers are covered by trip delay reimbursement, baggage insurance, trip cancellation/interruption coverage, and secondary car rental loss-and-damage coverage.

Transfer partners: Membership Rewards is a robust program with some of the best airline transfer partners. The card also has a unique benefit: You'll get 35% of your points back when you use Pay With Points for eligible airfare through Amex Travel. You'll need to select your qualifying airline for this benefit annually.

Credits: The card also offers several credits for business owners. The up to $600 annual hotel credit, split into semiannual $300 credits, can help offset prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection (requires a two-night minimum) bookings through Amex Travel. Plus, the $10 monthly wireless cellphone credit saves me $120 a year in direct costs. These benefits can take some of the sting out of the card's $895 annual fee.

Earning potential: The Amex Business Platinum Card earns:

  • Earn 5X points on flights and prepaid hotels on AmexTravel.com.
  • Earn 2X points on each eligible purchase of $5,000 or more.
  • Earn 2X points on each eligible purchase with U.S. construction material and hardware suppliers.
  • Earn 2X points on each eligible purchase with U.S. electronic goods retailers and software & cloud system providers.
  • Earn 2X points on each eligible purchase with U.S. shipping providers.
  • 2X earning rates are subject to a cap of $2 million in purchases per calendar year.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

The Ink Preferred is one of our favorite travel cards for earning valuable transferable rewards without a premium annual fee.

Airport lounge access: The Ink Preferred doesn't offer lounge access — which is understandable for a card with a $95 annual fee.

Travel protections: Despite the modest annual fee, this card offers helpful travel protections like baggage delay insurance, trip interruption insurance, and even primary rental car insurance when renting for business purposes.

Transfer partners: The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card offers access to Chase's Ultimate Rewards transfer partners, but with a much lower annual fee than the Sapphire Reserve Business.

Credits: Besides a $10 monthly DoorDash credit, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card doesn't offer any travel credits.

Earning potential: With this card, you'll earn:

  • 3X points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases on travel, shipping purchases, Internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines each account anniversary year
  • 1X point per $1 on all other purchases

Savvy business owners can earn up to 450,000 Ultimate Rewards points each year through the bonus categories. The card also offers 5X on Lyft rides through September 2027.

Bottom Line

Overall, this list of the best business credit cards for frequent travelers isn't exhaustive, but it provides some of the best (and most popular) options on the market.

When it comes to the “best” card, the answer might differ from person to person. If you enjoy premium travel while away from home, a higher-annual-fee card could be ideal. Otherwise, an airline co-branded card could be a better fit if you're chasing airline status.

And for the business owner who keeps overhead low, a lower-fee card that delivers solid earning potential might make the most sense.
