American Airlines opened its first Admirals Club^® at New York-LaGuardia Airport in 1939, making it one of the oldest airport lounge networks in the world. More than 85 years later, Admirals Clubs remain a familiar pre-flight refuge for American Airlines travelers, with around 50 locations plus access to dozens of partner lounges around the globe.

Admirals Clubs generally aren’t as flashy as American Airlines Flagship Lounges or premium credit card lounges, but they can still make a travel day much more comfortable.

In this guide, we’ll walk through Admirals Club amenities, locations, guest rules, and all the current ways to access American Airlines Admirals Clubs and partner lounges.

Admirals Club Amenities and Locations

Amenities at Admirals Clubs vary by club location. Some lounges have premium offerings like private shower suites and conference rooms. Other clubs stick with the basics like complimentary snacks, beer, and wine.

But at a minimum, Admirals Club locations offer:

• Complimentary snacks
• Free Wi-Fi
• Complimentary house beer, wine (including sparkling wine), and select cocktails
• Customer service agents who can assist with travel plans

Generally, lounges at American Airlines hubs (such as Dallas-Fort Worth and Charlotte) offer more extensive amenities. The same goes for Admirals Club locations in more premium markets (like New York-LaGuardia and Newark).

Many hub lounges feature expanded hot food selections during lunch and dinner, and some even offer made-to-order avocado toast and guacamole stations.

Depending on the location and time of day, Admirals Clubs have experienced crowding issues in recent years, though they generally avoid the long lines often seen at Delta SkyClubs and most American Express Centurion Lounges.

How Can You Access Admirals Clubs?

Accessing American Airlines Admirals Clubs is straightforward. Travelers can enter these airport lounges in multiple ways — even if they don't have a membership.

Here are the current ways to access Admirals Club lounges:

• Purchase an annual membership.
• Hold the Citi^® / AAdvantage^® Executive World Elite Mastercard^® for unlimited access when flying with American or a partner airline.
• Use one of the four annual Admirals Club passes offered by the Citi^® / AAdvantage^® Globe™ Mastercard^® or Citi Strata Elite℠ Card when traveling on a same-day flight with American Airlines or a partner airline.
• Travel in a premium cabin on a qualifying international or transcontinental flight operated by American Airlines or a partner airline.
• Hold AAdvantage^® elite status or Oneworld elite status. (American Airlines and Alaska Airlines elites must be on an international itinerary.)
• Purchase a day pass for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles.
• Select a membership as one of your Loyalty Point Rewards.
• Be active-duty U.S. military traveling on an American Airlines-operated flight while in uniform.

The best option to access Admirals Clubs depends on how often you fly American Airlines. A day pass should suffice for infrequent flyers who take an occasional vacation. However, frequent flyers may find that an annual membership or credit card benefit offers better long-term value.

Purchase an annual Admirals Club membership

American Airlines didn't begin selling Admirals Club memberships until 1974. Before that, lounge access was limited to invited guests and select travelers. But in more recent decades, you still can purchase an Admirals Club membership outright.

Annual pricing starts at $750 for new members — but only those with AAdvantage^® Executive Platinum status. At the other end of the spectrum, a new family membership costs as much as $1,650 for travelers without elite status.

Members can renew their membership up to 120 days before it expires. Members can renew at a discounted annual rate. Here is how much Admirals Club memberships cost as of May 2026:

A paid membership allows members to access all Admirals Club locations as well as partner lounges.

While purchasing a membership directly is certainly an option, it is rarely the most cost-effective approach. Rather, the most cost-effective (and usually the most practical) way to obtain Admirals Club membership is with the AA Executive Card.

Complimentary Admirals Club membership with the Citi^® / AAdvantage^® Executive World Elite Mastercard^®

The only card that includes a full Admirals Club membership is the AA Executive Card. Access is complimentary for the primary account holder and authorized users. You can add up to three authorized users for $175.

The AA Executive Card carries a $595 annual fee — which is cheaper than the cost of buying an Admirals Club membership outright.

Accessing Admirals Clubs with your AA Executive Card

If your AA Executive Card is linked to your AAdvantage^® account, lounge agents can verify your membership using your AAdvantage number. Otherwise, you'll need to present your card, boarding pass, and a valid government-issued ID.

Your membership lets you access all Admirals Clubs and participating partner lounges. Additionally, those with the AA Executive Card can bring immediate family members (spouse, domestic partner, and children under 18) or up to two guests into the club during each visit.

Get Admirals Club passes via credit cards

Citi Strata Elite and Citi^® / AAdvantage^® Globe™ Mastercard^® cardholders receive four Admirals Club passes each calendar year.

Each pass is valid for 24 hours and can be used at multiple participating lounges during that period, provided you have a same-day boarding pass for a flight operated by American Airlines or an eligible partner.

While these cards don't provide unlimited lounge access, four annual passes can be enough for occasional American Airlines travelers who don't visit Admirals Clubs often enough to justify a membership or premium credit card.

You must present your boarding pass and a valid form of government ID to take advantage of your complimentary Admirals Club access. Guest privileges are limited when accessing Admirals Clubs through a premium-cabin ticket.

Unless you're traveling in Flagship First, you cannot bring a guest into the lounge. Flagship First passengers can bring one guest traveling on a same-day flight operated by a Oneworld airline.

Depending on your status and your itinerary, you might already have access to Admirals Clubs.

AAdvantage^® Platinum status, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum members can access Admirals Clubs even when flying in economy when traveling on eligible international itineraries.

Travelers accessing the lounge through elite status may bring one guest traveling on a same-day Oneworld flight.

Note that Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald elites from airlines other than American Airlines and Alaska Airlines aren't subject to these geographic restrictions. For example, a British Airways Silver member can access Admirals Clubs when flying American Airlines or another Oneworld carrier, even on itineraries that would not qualify an American Airlines elite for access.

Purchase an Admirals Club day pass

Don't have an Admirals Club membership or elite status? Passengers traveling on American Airlines can purchase a day pass online or at check-in at an Admirals Club location. Lounge capacity restrictions could prevent you from buying or using an Admirals Club day pass.

You can purchase an Admirals Club day pass for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage^® miles. Day passes are good for 24 hours from the first club check-in. One-Day Passes are available to travelers flying on eligible same-day flights marketed or operated by American Airlines, or marketed and operated by a Oneworld airline.

For example, if I were to start my travels in St. Louis (STL) when the club opens at 4:30 a.m., I could access as many Admirals Clubs as I would like until 4:30 a.m. the following day. That would include connections in Chicago (ORD) and New York (JFK) during those 24 hours.

With a day pass, you can bring up to three children (under age 18) as guests, so long as they have boarding passes for same-day travel on AA or a partner airline.

Choose Admirals Club access via Loyalty Point Rewards

AAdvantage^® members can earn Loyalty Point Rewards starting at 15,000 Loyalty Points during a qualification year. However, Admirals Club access doesn't become available until the 250,000 Loyalty Point Reward level.

At that threshold, members can choose two Loyalty Point Rewards. An Admirals Club membership is available as an option, but it requires both selections.

Active U.S. Military in uniform

Active U.S. military members in uniform traveling on a flight operated by American Airlines can access Admirals Clubs at no charge. These travelers can enter Admirals Clubs with their boarding pass and military I.D. Additionally, military personnel can bring immediate family members or up to two guests during their visit.

This benefit does not extend to two partner lounges: the Airspace Lounge in San Diego (SAN) and the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu (HNL).
