World of Hyatt consistently ranks among the best hotel programs for award travel. Its reasonable award chart and generous elite benefits contribute to that reputation. Members can also earn valuable rewards like Guest of Honor, Free Night certificates, and Suite Upgrade Awards through credit card spending and Milestone Rewards. For now, members can gift an unlimited number of these earned awards to anyone, but that's about to change.

Here's what World of Hyatt members need to know about this upcoming restriction.

Hyatt Adds a New Cap to the Number of Awards You Can Receive

World of Hyatt's award gifting policy has long been pretty generous. And it’s still generous, but Hyatt will soon cap the number of awards a person can receive each year.

After quietly updating its terms and conditions, Hyatt added this new language:

“As of June 7, 2025, a Member may be gifted a maximum of ten (10) transferred awards per calendar year in accordance with the process described above. This restriction applies only to the receipt of transferred gift awards. Members remain able to transfer as many eligible awards as they choose.”

These changes won't take effect for another month, but if you frequently earn and burn awards by giving them to someone else — or if you're often on the receiving end — you’ll want to pay attention to this new limit.

Bottom Line

Using Hyatt awards is a very valuable tool for improving your stay. Whether a Guest of Honor award — which confers Globalist perks like free breakfast and late checkout to the recipient — or a Suite Upgrade Award that can guarantee a suite for up to a seven-day stay, these giftable awards can be very lucrative.

While we inherently don't love new restrictions, the upcoming limitation to only receive ten awards per year shouldn't have much impact on the majority of Hyatt-goers. But if you were planning to forego earning elite status and rely on family and friends to gift your way to enhanced Hyatt stays, you must now take heed of the limit.
