Marriott Bountiful Welcome Bonus
Earning a welcome bonus is a great way to get a stash of points ahead of your next redemption. Right now, you can take advantage of the following welcome bonus on the Marriott Bountiful:
Earn 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $4,000 in eligible purchases on their Card in the first three months.AwardWallet users typically redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for 0.93¢ apiece, so this offer is worth approximately $790.
Make sure to compare this bonus to the welcome bonus offered by the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card, which is essentially the same card (with a few variations) issued by American Express. If you're interested in a mid-tier Marriott card, go with the one with the higher offer.
Marriott Bountiful Benefits
Marriott's mid-tier cards are surprisingly light on benefits. However, there are a few notable perks Marriott Bountiful cardholders can enjoy.
Marriott Gold Elite status
One of the main perks available to Marriott Bountiful cardholders is complimentary Marriott Gold Elite status. As the second of five elite status tiers, you'll receive perks like 25% bonus points on stays, a 2 p.m. late checkout (as available), and space-available room upgrades. Elite members also receive a welcome gift of 250 or 500 bonus points at participating brands.
If you want higher-value perks, the Marriott Bountiful can help you reach higher tiers of Marriott Bonvoy elite status by offering 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year. That means you only need to earn 35 Elite Night Credits to earn Marriott Bonvoy® Platinum Elite Status, which offers space-available suite upgrades, a welcome gift including breakfast offerings, and a 4 p.m. checkout, subject to availability.
1,000 bonus points per stay
Primary cardholders earn 1,000 bonus points per eligible paid stay booked directly with Marriott on a qualifying rate and paid for with the Marriott Bountiful. Bookings made through travel portals such as Chase Travel℠, other third parties, or tour operators do not qualify, and only one room per hotel counts. However, this perk can add up quickly, especially if you frequently book short overnight trips.
Earn a free night award with a minimum spending requirement
If you spend at least $15,000 on your card in a calendar year, you'll earn a Free Night Award with a redemption level of up to 50,000 points. You can top off the certificate with up to 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, meaning you can book a hotel night costing up to 75k points. Just note this Free Night Award expires 12 months after issuance.
That's a fantastic perk, but you need to keep track of your spending. I was a cardholder of the competitor Marriott Bonvoy Bevy Card for several years, and it also offers a free night award when you meet a spending requirement. However, I never tracked my spending, so I never earned the award and left a lot of value on the table.
An easy way to ensure you'll earn your free night award is to use your Marriott Bountiful for all of your purchases at the beginning of the year until you reach the $15,000 spending requirement. Once you do, you can start using other cards that might offer better bonus categories.
Because this Free Night Award is central to the card’s value proposition, consider whether you can reach the $15,000 threshold without giving up more valuable rewards elsewhere.

Travel protections
Chase is known for offering solid travel and purchase protections, and the Marriott Bountiful is no exception. As a cardholder, you'll receive:
- Baggage delay insurance: Get reimbursed up to $100 a day for up to five days for essential purchases if your bag is delayed over six hours.
- Lost luggage reimbursement: Get reimbursed up to $3,000 per traveler ($2,000 for New York residents) for the cost to repair or replace baggage that is lost, damaged, or stolen during a covered trip.
- Trip delay reimbursement: Get covered for unreimbursable expenses if your common carrier travel is delayed more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay, up to $500 per traveler.
- Purchase protection: Your new purchases are covered for 120 days (90 days for New York residents) from the date of purchase against damage or theft, up to $500 per item.
If you're a frequent traveler, you know how difficult it is when your travel plans get disrupted. Baggage delay insurance and trip delay reimbursement are two of the most valuable protections you can have on a credit card, and the Marriott Bountiful has you covered with both.
Marriott Bountiful Earning Rates
The earning potential is where the Marriott Bountiful really shines. You'll earn:
- 6X points on purchases at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy
- 4X points on up to $15,000 in combined purchases per year at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets
- 2X points on all other eligible purchases
However, the Marriott Bonvoy earning potential is better than you realize. Marriott Bonvoy members get up to 10X points per $1 at Marriott properties worldwide. As a Gold Elite member, you'll also get 2.5X bonus points on top of the 6X points you earn from spending on the card. All in, that's up to 18.5X points per $1 spent.
That's an incredible return — book a $1,000 vacation (at a brand that earns the full 10X base rate) and earn a total of 18,500 Marriott Bonvoy points. Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, those points are worth roughly $172. That's a 17% return on your spending.
Plus, 4X points on the first $15,000 in combined purchases annually at grocery stores and on dining is fantastic. Does $15,000 sound familiar? That's how much you need to spend on your card to earn your free night award. If groceries and dining already make up a large share of your spending, those 4X categories can help you work toward the $15,000 Free Night Award threshold without sacrificing as much earning potential.
Marriott Bonvoy points generally expire after 24 months without qualifying activity. Making an eligible purchase with the card is one way to reset the expiration clock. You also won't pay any foreign transaction fees, so this is a great card to take abroad.
Redeeming Points With the Marriott Bountiful
As a Marriott Bountiful cardholder, you'll earn Marriott Bonvoy points on your purchases, which means you're somewhat limited in how you redeem your points. However, there are still plenty of options to consider.

Hotel stays
If you're considering a hotel credit card, odds are that you want to book a hotel with the points you earn from your card. Although AwardWallet users tend to redeem Marriott points for 0.93¢ apiece, it's certainly possible to redeem them for two or three times that amount.
For instance, one of our favorite Marriott redemptions for luxury stays is at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. On the dates we checked in July 2026, you can book an overwater villa for five nights for 602,000 points, taking full advantage of Marriott's fifth night free benefit. That same room costs roughly $15,569 for five nights, giving you a value of almost 2.6 cents per point.
However, you might be able to do even better than that. Since January 2025, AwardWallet users have redeemed almost 14 million Marriott points at this hotel and have received an average value of 2.77 cents per point.

You don't need hundreds of thousands of points to squeeze maximum value out of each point. There are some fantastic budget-friendly Marriott redemptions, including the Aloft Panama, where AwardWallet users typically get 2.29 cents per point in value.
Airline transfers
Marriott offers an impressive 37 airline partners. For the vast majority of partners, you'll transfer at a 3:1 ratio, and many partners offer a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 points you transfer. Notable exceptions to this perk include American Airlines AAdvantage®, Avianca LifeMiles, and Delta SkyMiles. However, United MileagePlus offers an even better bonus: 10,000 bonus miles per 60,000 points transferred.
More than likely, you'll want to avoid this redemption method if you hold the Marriott Bountiful. Transferring hotel points to airlines could be a worthwhile way to rescue hard-to-use or expiring points. However, if you're applying for a co-branded card with a $250 annual fee, you're probably somewhat loyal to the brand and will be able to redeem your points for hotel stays.
Even with a bonus, the transfer ratios when converting Bonvoy points to airline miles are subpar. Plus, most of these airline partners are accessible through other transferable point currencies at far better ratios.
Here's the full list of partners, transfer ratios, and average transfer times.
Application Restrictions
Marriott card application restrictions are confusing enough to justify a post of their own. But in short, you cannot earn a welcome bonus on the Marriott Bountiful if you:
- Earned a welcome bonus on this card or any American Express-issued Marriott cards in the last 24 months.
- Currently hold (or have held in the last 30 days) any Amex-issued Marriott cards.
- Were approved for a listed American Express Marriott card within the past 90 days.
- Received a new-cardmember or upgrade bonus on an Amex Marriott card within the past 24 months.
You also aren’t eligible to apply if you currently hold the Marriott Bountiful.
Here are the full card application terms as of July 2026:
“The new cardmember bonus is not available to you if (1) you currently have or had any of the following cards within the last 30 days, (2) you applied and were approved for any of the following cards within the last 90 days, or (3) you received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus for any of the following cards within the last 24 months: Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card, Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express, Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card, Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card, Marriott Bonvoy Bevy™ American Express® Card.”
These are some tight restrictions. It's not often that holding a card issued by American Express impacts your eligibility for a card issued by Chase. However, there's nothing in the terms and conditions to indicate that you are ineligible for the bonus if you hold another Chase-issued Marriott card like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card (Rates & Fees).

Since the Marriott Bountiful is issued by Chase, it's subject to Chase's 5/24 rule. In short, Chase typically will not approve you for most of its cards if you have opened five or more personal credit card accounts across all issuers within the past 24 months. If you're interested in several different credit cards, including the Marriott Bountiful (or another Chase-issued card), consider applying for these cards first.
Other issuers tend to have more lenient requirements. Going over 5/24 doesn’t necessarily prevent you from getting a card from American Express or Capital One, although those issuers have their own approval rules. For most Chase cards, you’ll generally need to wait until your 5/24 count drops.

Cards That Compete With the Marriott Bountiful
Marriott is unique in offering a collection of co-branded credit cards with both American Express and Chase, giving you five personal cards and a business card to choose from. The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card is the American Express equivalent of the Marriott Bountiful, offering complimentary Gold Elite status and 1,000 bonus points per stay in exchange for a $250 annual fee (Rates & Fees).
However, here are a few competitor cards to consider:
- If you want automatic Marriott Bonvoy® Platinum Elite Status: Consider the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card. As much as we wish it did, Gold Elite status doesn't offer a ton of valuable benefits. That makes the automatic Platinum Elite status that you get with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card all the more compelling. Plus, you'll enjoy up to $25 per month in statement credits for eligible purchases made at restaurants worldwide, and you'll receive an annual free night award worth 85,000 points. If you can fully use the dining credits and get strong value from the annual Free Night Award, those benefits can offset much of the card’s annual fee (Rates & Fees).
- If you want an annual Free Night Award without spending $15,000: Consider the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card. If you want a free night award without a sky-high annual fee, the Marriott Boundless is probably your best option. Every year after your account anniversary, you'll get a free night award worth up to 35,000 points. You'll also get automatic Marriott Bonvoy® Silver Elite Status, and you'll pay just $95 per year (Rates & Fees).
- If you want flexible rewards rather than Marriott-only points: Consider the American Express Platinum Card®. If you want the option to redeem your rewards with Marriott while also redeeming rewards with other hotels or airlines, the Platinum Card® is a great choice. You’ll earn 5X Membership Rewards® points on eligible prepaid hotel bookings made through American Express Travel®. Plus, you can receive up to $300 in statement credits every six months — up to $600 per calendar year — on eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® bookings or stays of at least two nights with The Hotel Collection booked through American Express Travel® (Rates & Fees). You'll even enjoy Marriott Gold Elite status, and you can then transfer your rewards to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio.

Bottom Line
The Marriott Bountiful is a solid mid-tier Marriott card for anyone who stays with Marriott frequently enough to enjoy Gold Elite status but not enough to opt for a premium card with better perks. If you decide to apply, make sure you spend enough to earn your free night award. Without it, it's hard to justify a $250 annual fee for Gold Elite status, a handful of travel protections, and 1,000 bonus points per stay.

- 6X points on purchases at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy
- 4X points on up to $15,000 in combined purchases per year at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets
