Choice Hotels and its loyalty program, Choice Privileges, may still be an afterthought for some, but its ever-expanding portfolio and fantastic award pricing shouldn't be ignored. And today, Choice Privileges is giving you another reason to pay attention. It has added the ability to share points between accounts — for free.

With so many loyalty programs removing points sharing, it's almost jarring to see a program introduce it for the first time. Here's everything to know about this exciting new feature.

Choice Privileges Launches Points Sharing

Choice Privileges members can now share points with each other. Choice has been on a roll this year, introducing a new Titanium status, milestone rewards, and more. It's clearly making a play for savvy award travelers, and the new points sharing feature is a sure-fire way to attract attention.

To share your points, head over to Choice's points transfer page and enter the other person's name, email, and Choice Privileges number. You can transfer a minimum of 5,000 points and a maximum of 100,000 points per transaction in increments of 1,000 points. You're allowed to send up to 200,000 Choice points in a calendar year, but you can only receive up to 100,000 points per year. Transfers should process within 24 hours.

The terms and conditions state that transferring points is not considered a qualifying activity, which means sending or receiving points won't extend your Choice point expiration date or count toward elite status.

Choice also notes that your account must be both in good standing and open for a minimum of 30 days to complete a transfer.

Why You Might Want to Combine Choice Points

If you've ever traveled with friends or family, you know how difficult it is to develop a booking strategy if you each have points you want to use. Points sharing can unlock some great trips.

Choice points really shine outside of the U.S. In Prague, for example, you can grab a room for three people for just 8,000 points:

In Australia, you can stay relatively close to Robert Irwin and Australia Zoo for an aspirational 45,000 points. However, cash rates at the First Light Mooloolaba, an Ascend Collection Hotel, can exceed $400 on weekends.

A two-bedroom suite should cover everyone in your party, too:

Earning Choice Points

Besides this new points sharing feature, you can build your Choice points balance with a welcome bonus and everyday spending on the Choice Privileges® Mastercard® (Rates & Fees) and Choice Privileges® Select Mastercard®(Rates & Fees).

It's also worth mentioning that Choice Privileges has several transfer partners, though some — such as Wells Fargo — offer far better conversion ratios than others:

Bottom Line

The ability to transfer hotel points between accounts for free is a welcome addition in today's points and miles landscape. This is genuinely good news for those hoping to make an award redemption with Choice Hotels, especially if you want to pool points with family and friends.
