Visiting an AutoCamp had been on my travel bucket list ever since Hilton launched an exclusive partnership with the brand in 2024 and began integrating properties into its portfolio shortly after. I like camping, and I don’t mind a glamorous stay every now and then, so it only made sense that I’d enjoy “glamping.” And honestly, I loved it.

Here’s what my AutoCamp Cape Cod experience was like — and a few things I learned about the property during my stay.

My Experience at AutoCamp Cape Cod

Cape Cod is divine. If you’ve never been, it deserves a spot on your bucket list for the scenery, the food, and the attractions alone, even if you're not going for the AutoCamp experience. But I highly recommend combining the two so you can get the best of both worlds.

Getting to AutoCamp Cape Cod

AutoCamp Cape Cod is on the western part of the Cape, in the town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. It’s a little over 20 miles west of Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) and about 70 miles from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

My wife and I flew American Airlines into Hyannis and used a combination of public transportation and Uber to cover the last few miles, and it couldn’t have been easier.

Public transportation was a much cheaper alternative to renting a car, though if you're staying for more than a night or two, you might find a lot of value in having your own vehicle. Renting at the airport or driving your own to Cape Cod can make exploring the surrounding area much easier than relying on rideshare apps or the CCRTA bus system. More on this shortly.

Checking in

Just as easy as getting to the property was the check-in process, though it did take a while. But that was mostly thanks to Pete at the front desk, who gave us more food and activity recommendations than we knew what to do with.

I kid you not, the list was long enough to justify booking another trip just to work through everything we didn’t get to.

Elite recognition

Unfortunately, our stay was just a single night, though it was made a little better by a complimentary upgrade from the Adventure Tent I booked for 70,000 Hilton Honors points to an Airstream Suite.

Space-available upgrades (as well as canned water and firewood) are the de facto My Way benefits you get with Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond status at AutoCamp properties. It's a unique brand, so it's only natural that the elite benefits are somewhat unique, too.

I will add that the odds of an upgrade here seem pretty good, considering the property has 10 tents, 10 cabins, and a whopping 98 customized Airstreams.

No air conditioning in the Adventure Tents

It was also during check-in when I learned the Adventure Tents don’t have air conditioning. That wouldn’t have been a big deal if it hadn’t been pushing 90 degrees, something I couldn’t have possibly predicted a month earlier when I booked the stay.

The day after we left, though, the weather dropped back into the low 70s. Go figure.

But one could argue I should have insisted we stick with the tent, considering my wife is now convinced we could live in one of these Airstreams full-time.

Inside the Airstream Suite

And I completely understand why she’d think that. The Airstream Suite was awesome, and by the end of the trip, I wasn’t all that thrilled to leave. Each Airstream is custom-built for the AutoCamp brand, and every campsite is private, thoughtfully furnished, and surprisingly spacious.

We were initially delivered to our campsite by golf cart, though AutoCamp also offers wagons to help transport luggage. Depending on where you're assigned, that could mean a fairly long walk from the clubhouse or a short one. Either way, it’s almost surely a more pleasant walk when it isn’t blazing hot.

Air conditioning

On the plus side, the Airstreams have air conditioning, and it works incredibly well. After pulling the shades and knocking the thermostat down a few degrees, it was perfectly comfortable inside.

And if you wonder why there are a couple of thermostats on the wall when only one system is running, it’s partly because the original units installed with the Airstreams (there are two on the roof of each) were a bit too noisy for the locals. But you didn’t hear that from me. That issue encouraged the property to install mini-splits to keep guests comfortable.

But if you visit when it’s not so hot, AC won’t be the first thing on your mind. The rest of the Airstream is fun to explore, too.

Bedroom

One end of the Airstream is the bedroom, with expansive windows, a Tempur-Pedic queen-size mattress, bedside tables with outlets, and a TV (that we never turned on). It’s plenty spacious for two people, and you can close the door to it for a little added privacy.

Bathroom and shower

The other end houses the bathroom, complete with a glass shower and all the standard amenities you’d expect in a traditional hotel. AutoCamp also has fancy shared showers in the clubhouse (you’ll use these if you’re staying in an Adventure Tent), but the one in our Airstream worked well enough that we never bothered to use them.

Funnily enough, our only “complaint” was that the hot water worked almost too well — something I’ve never been able to say about other campers I’ve stayed in.

Living area and kitchen

In the center of the Airstream is the living room and kitchen. Here you'll find cabinets stocked with pots, pans, plates, and flatware, plus a microwave and a sink. When we arrived, we noticed a few matchboxes in the basket on the counter that came in handy for lighting a fire in the fire pit once the sun went down.

Each Airstream can comfortably sleep three, but you’ll need to use the pullout sofa bed to accommodate the third person. It’s located opposite the kitchen, though we never ended up inspecting it since the couch became a catchall for our stuff.

The biggest takeaway about the Airstream was how functional the space was. There’s enough furniture to make it comfortable and enough supplies stocked in the kitchen that you can actually use it without needing to bring too many of your own if you're planning on staying a while.

Exploring AutoCamp Cape Cod

It was also easy to appreciate how cool the campground itself was. The layout is simple enough to walk around without getting lost, and most of the campsites surround the clubhouse.

We walked several laps around the property between check-in and checkout, mostly to take pictures and catch a better view of the sunset. We also had the neat opportunity to take a guided tour of AutoCamp Cape Cod with the General Manager, Tom Lehnen.

Adventure Tents

During the tour, I was able to peek inside an Adventure Tent, of which there are 10. This was originally where our reservation was booked, and likely where we would have stayed if not for the complimentary upgrade.

The tents are more spacious than you might expect. Each one has a king-size bed, which is actually larger than what you will find in any of the Airstreams or cabins. Furniture-wise, it seemed like a step up from the Airstreams, with a larger fridge, an ottoman, a luggage rack, and a few other amenities we didn't have in our unit.

The tradeoff is that you won't have air conditioning or a bathroom that isn't more than a few steps away. Instead, you get a tower fan and access to the facilities in the clubhouse.

On the tour, I also learned that the tents are susceptible to lichen growth, and that's a challenge to contain, which explains the spots on the canvas.

Cabins

At AutoCamp properties, Adventure Tents are usually the cheapest to reserve, cabins are the most expensive, and Airstreams fall somewhere in the middle. The cabins, if you're willing to splurge or lucky enough to score an upgrade, are pretty neat.

There are ten cabins in total, and they offer the most space and amenities of any unit you can book at AutoCamp Cape Cod. The interior is similar to the Airstream Suites, but the extra square footage gives you more room to move around in the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

The cabins also have a much larger TV than the Airstreams as well as a small stove, and you will still get a couch that pulls out into a double bed.

Arguably, you'll get some of the best views of the campground and surrounding area if you're able to book a cabin, especially one at the top of the hill above the RideAway rental shop. However, if you're torn between a cabin and an Airstream, I think you'll get more bang for your buck in the Airstream, though there's something to be said about the extra space.

Reserve multiple units for gatherings, weddings, and corporate events

We also learned on the tour that the campground’s layout makes it easy to reserve a block of units, either Airstreams or cabins, on a cul-de-sac or in a row. Although Lehnen mentioned that pricing this out can be a bit tricky, since not every Airstream has the same view and some are more expensive than others, it still makes the property worth considering for family gatherings, weddings, or corporate events.

Or, if you're flush with cash, you could rent out the entire campground. Lehnen shared a story about someone who did just that for a birthday weekend and spent well over two hundred thousand dollars in the process. Wild stuff.

Clubhouse

No matter where you stay, you'll almost certainly get familiar with the clubhouse. This is where you will check in, grab food, and participate in scheduled activities like morning yoga. In the mornings, you can enjoy complimentary locally made granola and coffee, or purchase food from The Kitchen. Here, you can also pick up branded merchandise and snacks from the general store.

There are plenty of spots to sit and hang out inside the clubhouse — and they're arguably a bit more comfortable than what you will find in your tent, Airstream, or cabin.

You can also head upstairs to the balcony around sunset to take in sweeping views of the landscape and the setting sun. And you'll see some fantastic sunsets here.

Outside the clubhouse, there are a few activities to enjoy as well. Cornhole and ladder toss were two options we saw, but you can also sit by the fire pit and relax in the (hopefully) cool weather.

Beaches and bike rentals

But even if it’s hot, it’s still easy to spend a lot of time outside during your stay. There are several beaches nearby — that you can get to by running, walking, or even biking.

If you didn't happen to bring your own, there's an on-property rental shack where you can rent a basic bicycle for two hours for free as a guest of AutoCamp, or you can pay up for something a little fancier.

And it’s worth at least grabbing a bike for two hours. The pathway behind the shop stretches nearly 12 miles, with turning left out of the gate taking you to town, while turning right will take you to the beach.

Either way you go, it’s scenic — and almost perfectly flat the whole way.

Again, you really can't beat the scenery.

Visiting Falmouth or Woods Hole

Biking into town might take a little longer than grabbing an Uber or Lyft or taking your own car, but I'd still recommend finding some way to get there.

Downtown Falmouth is home to several boutique shops and restaurants, and it's also just a net place to walk around. This was one of Pete’s recommendations, along with Woods Hole, which we also visited by rideshare.

This is where having a vehicle comes in handy, especially if you want to explore more of the Cape. Rideshares were cheap enough, but the cost can add up quickly the longer you stay.

S'mores and a campfire

The best part of my stay at AutoCamp Cape Cod, though, was not the sunset or even the Airstream, but the fire pit outside of the Airstream. As a Hilton Honors elite, you're entitled to a bundle of firewood, and it made for an awesome evening.

The property offers a complimentary s'mores kit to Hilton Honors Diamond elites, though they gave us one to try out as well. That said, these s'mores kits might not be around for much longer. They're incredibly rich and expensive to procure, and Lehnen indicated that something new is in the works on that front. But there's nothing wrong with bringing your own supplies or purchasing some on the Cape.

Still, with the matches, the firewood, and a fire starter puck, lighting a fire and enjoying a s'more outside the Airstream was the perfect way to end the day. There'd be a picture of the s'more if I hadn't eaten it so fast.

Elevate Your AutoCamp Stay With Hilton Honors

If you are planning to visit an AutoCamp, whether Cape Cod or elsewhere, you'll find extra value in having a Hilton Honors credit card or some other method of earning Gold or Diamond Elite status. Perks like complimentary upgrades, water, and even s'mores kits for top-tier elites can make your stay that much better. And if you're paying with cash, the bonus points you earn, especially when using your Hilton Honors credit card, can add up quickly.

If you don't have a Hilton Honors credit card, earning the sign-up bonus on one can more than likely cover a night at an AutoCamp property. For example, the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card offers 130,000 Hilton Honors points after you spend $3,000 in purchases in the first 6 months of Card Membership and complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status.

The night I booked was 70,000 points, so a Hilton Surpass welcome offer could cover around two nights. Cash rates at AutoCamp properties can get pretty expensive, so “standard rooms” can be a great use of points. But depending on when you go, you can occasionally get a good deal if you pay the cash rate instead:

The Hilton Surpass also offers a quarterly Hilton Honors statement credit of up to $50 for purchases made directly with a property in the Hilton portfolio. If you use the card at AutoCamp Cape Cod, whether at the General Store, for food, or for something else, you'll receive a statement credit of up to $50 each quarter. In my case, I used the credit for some property-branded merchandise and received the statement credit within 72 hours of making the purchase.

Final Thoughts

The night I spent at AutoCamp Cape Cod was, in all likelihood, my favorite Hilton Honors redemption of all time. The property and the surrounding area were just plain fun. And in my opinion, there’s no better way to use points than on fun experiences.

Simply put, the Airstream, the amenities, and the location made for a memorable getaway, and now I'm torn between planning a trip back to Cape Cod or checking out another AutoCamp property. Eventually, it'll have to be both, but deciding which comes first is by no means an easy decision.
