For the first time we've ever seen, Chase Ultimate Rewards has a transfer bonus to JetBlue TrueBlue. While that's exciting, it's ending soon: on January 10, 2024. Until then, Chase cardholders can transfer Ultimate Rewards to JetBlue with a 25% bonus.

Transfer bonuses are never bad news. However, even JetBlue diehards shouldn't necessarily jump on this transfer bonus. Let's dig into the details and show you why.

Chase–JetBlue Transfer Bonus Key Terms

  • The offer is valid until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on January 10, 2024.
  • Bonus points will be added at the time of the transfer.
  • You'll receive 1,250 TrueBlue points per 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points transferred.
  • Ultimate Rewards points must be transferred in increments of 1,000 points.
  • Chase warns that transfers “may take up to 7 business days.” However, AwardWallet data points show that transfers are typically instantaneous.

How the JetBlue TrueBlue Program Works

JetBlue utilizes a revenue-based loyalty program, where the price of awards is roughly based on the cash price of the flight. However, unlike the Southwest Rapid Rewards program, it's not an exact formula. Instead, TrueBlue points can provide anywhere between 1 and 1.5 cents per point. In recent AwardWallet user redemptions, JetBlue TrueBlue points have provided 1.24¢ in value.

The good news about this type of program is there are no blackout dates or need to find award availability. As long as a JetBlue flight is bookable with cash, you can redeem TrueBlue points for the flight. That

The downside is that there's no way to really maximize JetBlue TrueBlue points — at least for flights on JetBlue. You're stuck getting no more than 1.5 cents per TrueBlue point in value.

That is, until recently…

Redeeming TrueBlue points for Qatar awards

In November of 2023, AwardWallet broke the news that you can now redeem JetBlue points on Qatar. Thankfully, unlike awards on JetBlue, Qatar awards are based on a fixed redemption chart, rather than the cost of the flight. You can book Qatar's incredible Qsuite business-class product for as few as 70,000 TrueBlue points.

During this transfer bonus, you only need to redeem 56k Chase Ultimate Rewards points to JetBlue to book one of these awards. That's a steal for one of the best business-class products in the world!

Do JetBlue TrueBlue Points Expire?

Anytime you consider transferring points from one currency to another, it's important to understand the expiration policies. Thankfully you have nothing to fear here. JetBlue TrueBlue points do not expire as long as your account is open.

The same is the case for Chase: Ultimate Rewards points don't expire as long as your card is open. So, you don't have to worry about moving points to a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner before they expire.

Should You Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to JetBlue With a Transfer Bonus?

Chase Ultimate Rewards points are some of the most valuable points around. Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, travelers can expect to get 1.94¢ per point in value from Chase points. Considering JetBlue points only average 1.24¢ per point, this 25% transfer bonus only boosts the value to around 1.5 cents per point.

But that's only on the average JetBlue award redemption. If you only redeem TrueBlue points at 1 cent per point, this JetBlue transfer bonus nets you just 1.25 cents per Chase Ultimate Rewards point. That's the redemption rate Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (Rates & Fees) and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (Rates & Fees) cardholders get from redeeming points through the Chase Travel Portal.

Even better, if you redeem points for JetBlue flights through the Chase Travel Portal, you'll earn TrueBlue points on the flight purchase. So, make sure to do the math on any redemption before transferring Chase points to JetBlue — even with a transfer bonus.

With that said, you're likely to get a much higher redemption rate if you transfer Chase points to JetBlue to book Qatar Airways Qsuite business class awards. Transferring 56k Chase points to JetBlue for a Qsuite redemption to Qatar is surely going to provide much more than $700 in value (56,000 x 1.25 cents redemption rate through the Chase Travel Portal).
