Citi just launched a 20% transfer bonus for ThankYou® Point transfers to Flying Blue — the loyalty program of Air France, KLM, and several partner airlines. This can unlock great value for flights to Europe and beyond, including sweet spots like business class to Europe for just 50,000 ThankYou® points or economy awards from as low as 16,000 points. Here's what you need to know to make the most of this bonus.

Is This Flying Blue Transfer Bonus a Good Deal?

Flying Blue is somewhat underrated as far as airline loyalty programs go. It gets a bad rep for utilizing dynamic award pricing and often levying significant fees on award redemptions. However, there are several amazing Flying Blue sweet spots, and this 20% bonus makes them even better.

North America to Europe in business class

One of our favorite Flying Blue sweet spots recently got a little less sweet. Flying Blue recently implemented an unannounced devaluation, raising its starting award rates between the U.S. and Europe by up to 25%.

Still, business class costs as few as 60,000 Flying Blue miles — no matter how far you fly. You can fly between Los Angeles (LAX) and Stockholm, Sweden (ARN) for just 60,000 Flying Blue miles each way.

During this Flying Blue 25% transfer bonus, this award only costs 50,000 Citi ThankYou® points each way. That's an excellent deal — even after Flying Blue's recent devaluation.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards

Flying Blue Promo Rewards offers a monthly promotion offering discounted award rates between certain destinations and Europe. These are destination- or departure-specific and typically involve a few destinations in North America.

You could potentially maximize Promo Rewards and this new transfer bonus simultaneously. For award flights booked during June 2025, awards from Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Diego, or New York to Europe price as low as 18,750 Flying Blue miles…

… or just 16k ThankYou points one-way by using this Flying Blue transfer bonus.

Best Ways to Earn Citi ThankYou® Points

Citi ThankYou points are one of my favorite award currencies. That's because not only can you transfer 1:1 to several unique loyalty programs, but you can also earn Citi ThankYou points quickly. This is thanks to Citi offering perhaps the best pair of point-earning cards in the award travel hobby: Citi Strata Premier℠ Card and Citi Double Cash® Card.

The Citi Strata Premier currently offers an awesome welcome bonus of 60,000 bonus ThankYou® Points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening, redeemable for $600 in gift cards or travel rewards at thankyou.com. The card earns 10X points per $1 on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked through CitiTravel.com; 3X points per $1 spent on airfare and other hotels; and 3X points at gas stations, EV charging stations, restaurants, and supermarkets. That's one of the best values available today for a card with only a $95 annual fee.

But even better, cardholders can pair their Citi Strata Premier (or a Citi Prestige® Card) with a Citi Double Cash to earn 2X ThankYou® points on every purchase! With the Citi Strata Premier/Citi Double Cash one-two punch, it's easy to earn a bunch of ThankYou® points in a hurry.

Flying Blue Expiration Policy

If you don't have qualifying activity in the past 24 months, then your Flying Blue miles expire. Unfortunately, transferring your points to Flying Blue doesn't count as qualifying activity.

Also, Flying Blue utilizes a unique mileage expiration policy. Importantly, miles that are earned through flying can only be extended through flying activities. If you are looking for a way to extend your mileage expiration, then you will need to take a flight with KLM, Air France, or one of Flying Blue's SkyTeam partners.

In addition, you are also able to extend the validity of your miles by spending on a Flying Blue co-branded credit card.

However, if you won't be able to extend or use them over the next two years, then make sure that you don't transfer Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue. Thankfully, you are able to add your Flying Blue account to AwardWallet. In short, the emails that you will receive will help you track your Flying Blue expiration dates.

Past Citi ThankYou® Points Transfer Bonuses

Citi ThankYou® transfer bonuses have historically been less common than those offered by American Express Membership RewardsCapital One Miles, or Chase Ultimate Rewards. However, that's changed dramatically in the past year, with Citi offering a steady stream of transfer bonuses.

Bottom Line

Citi just launched a 20% transfer bonus for ThankYou® Points to Flying Blue through July 19, 2025. This can unlock great value on flights between North America and Europe, especially when paired with Flying Blue Promo Rewards. For example, business class flights start at just 50,000 points one-way.

Flying Blue awards have dynamic pricing, but the program offers several sweet spots — including discounted economy awards from U.S. cities this month. Transfers process instantly, and there’s no cap or limit on how many times you can transfer under this promotion.

As always, remember that Flying Blue miles expire after 24 months without qualifying activity. If you regularly redeem Flying Blue awards — or plan to — this is an excellent chance to boost your balance and save on premium flights to Europe.

Will you transfer Citi ThankYou® Points to Flying Blue with a 20% transfer bonus?
