Earning Enterprise Plus Points

Earning Enterprise Plus Points is exceptionally straightforward. Members earn one point per $1 spent on a qualifying rental. Qualifying dollars include those spent on all of the following items:

  • Base rental rates.
  • Qualifying equipment upgrades such as GPS, car racks, and ski racks.
  • Paid upgrades.

Qualifying dollars exclude any amount spent on taxes, fees, vehicle license fees, and insurance. It also excludes any amount spent on fuel and refueling charges.

What counts as a qualifying rental?

Qualifying rentals include paid and free rental days at participating Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, the Asia Pacific, and the Caribbean. Additionally, rentals made with National Car Rentals in the U.S. and Canada, where the member's Enterprise Plus number is listed as the program preference in Emerald Club, also count.

Various other rentals do not qualify. For example, those made through a third party or as part of a tour or travel package don't count. Moreover, rentals made through an insurance or body shop will not count as qualifying rentals.

Transferring Enterprise Plus Points

One key benefit of the Enterprise Plus Program is the ability to transfer points from one member's account to another. Transfers between accounts are subject to the following terms and conditions:

  • Members can transfer between 500 and 7,500 points per year.
  • Transfers must occur in increments of 500 points.
  • Members can make one outgoing transfer per calendar year.
  • Members can receive one transfer per calendar year.

Your account must be open and activated to receive points. Once received, points have the same validity as any existing points balances or three months from the date of transfer — whichever is greater. Once complete, point transfers are irreversible.

Redeeming Enterprise Plus Points

You use your Enterprise points for “Free Rental Days.” The exact number of points needed per rental will vary depending on multiple factors, such as location and type of vehicle. Free days start at 400 points per day, excluding taxes, fees, and surcharges.

One of the best features of the Enterprise Plus program is the lack of blackout dates or award charts. Simply log into your account, select your rental, and choose between “Pay in $” or “Pay in Points.”

Free Rental Days are priced dynamically, meaning the number of points required varies with the cash rate. And on average, you'll get between 8 and 12 cents per point on redemptions.

Do Enterprise Plus Points Expire?

Enterprise Plus points do expire. However, the company has a generous expiration policy. Your points will expire if your account has no earning activity for 36 months. Redeeming your points does not count towards resetting your points; you must earn points from a qualifying rental to keep your points active.

Maximizing Your Spending on Enterprise Car Rentals

When renting a car, consider using a card that earns you bonus rewards and offers primary or secondary coverage. This way, you can grow your points balance while protecting yourself in the event of an accident or car theft.

According to AwardWallet's merchant category lookup tool, Enterprise purchases code as “travel.” Thus, you should pay with cards that offer bonus points on travel. Some quality options include:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve®: 5X total points on air travel and 10X total points on hotels and car rentals through Chase Travel℠ (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually), 3X points on other travel and dining, and 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Our Take

Rental car loyalty programs don't get much simpler than Enterprise Plus. It's point-earning structure is straightforward, as is the process of redeeming Enterprise points for Free Rental Days. Couple that with how widespread Enterprise's footprint is, and there is little not to like about the program.
