Etihad and Azul just launched a new frequent flyer partnership, letting members of both loyalty programs earn and redeem miles across each other’s networks. Etihad Guest members can now earn miles at up to 125% of flight miles and redeem miles for awards on Azul starting at just 6,000 miles. Paired with Etihad Guest's numerous transfer partnerships, this opens new redemption options for those looking to explore the Brazilian low-cost carrier's vast network.
Here’s what travelers need to know about the new Etihad-Azul loyalty partnership.
Mileage Earnings of the New Etihad-Azul Partnership
Effective July 23, 2025, Etihad Guest members can now earn miles when flying on Azul-operated flights. The number of miles earned depends on the fare class:
- Business Class: 125% of miles flown
- Full Economy: 100%
- Discounted Economy: 50%
- Deep Discounted Economy: 25%
To earn miles, simply enter your Etihad Guest number when booking your Azul flight. Miles should post within two weeks. If not, you can request retroactive credit up to 12 months later by submitting your ticket and boarding pass.
Only Azul-operated flights are eligible. Codeshare flights and charters do not qualify. Additionally, Azul flights do not earn Etihad Guest Tier Miles.
Azul Fidelidade members will also be able to earn points on Etihad-operated flights, though Azul hasn’t yet published specific earning rates.
Redeem Etihad Guest Miles on Azul Flights
Etihad Guest members can redeem miles for Azul-operated flights using a distance-based award chart. One-way pricing starts at 6,000 miles in economy and increases sharply from there:
Distance Range | Economy | Premium Economy | Business |
---|---|---|---|
0-500 | 6,000 | 7,500 | 20,000 |
501-1000 | 12,000 | 13,000 | 25,000 |
1001-1500 | 15,000 | 19,000 | 30,000 |
1501-2000 | 23,000 | 25,000 | 40,000 |
2001-2500 | 28,000 | 31,000 | 50,000 |
2501-3000 | 34,000 | 37,000 | 60,000 |
3001-4000 | 45,000 | 49,000 | 80,000 |
4001-5000 | 60,000 | 62,000 | 100,000 |
5001-6000 | 67,000 | 74,000 | 120,000 |
6000+ | 75,000 | 90,000 | 140,000 |
You'll find the cheapest 6,000-mile awards on many of Azul's most popular routes, such as between São Paulo (VCP/CGH/GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (SDU/GIG) or Belo Horizonte (CNF). However, for some reason, awards are pricing out at just over the stated 6,000-mile rate:

Longer flights — such as the three-hour flight between São Paulo (CGH) and Recife (REC) — price out at just over the stated rate of 15,000 Etihad Guest miles:

You can also redeem Etihad Guest miles for Azul’s international routes between the U.S. and Brazil — with rates between Orlando (MCO) and São Paulo (VCP) pricing out at 60,000 miles each way:

Paying 60,000 miles for an economy award isn't competitive — especially considering economy flights start at $303 one-way or under $600 round-trip. That's the main issue with this new partnership: Azul cash flights are often so affordable that you'll struggle to get a good redemption for your Etihad Guest miles.
With that said, one interesting aspect is that Etihad Guest's terms note that “stopovers are permitted, based on Azul terms and conditions.” However, it's unclear what's possible.
Any Reciprocal Elite Perks?
As of launch, neither airline has announced reciprocal elite benefits. That means Etihad Guest elite members shouldn't expect benefits like lounge access, extra baggage, or priority services when flying Azul — and vice versa for Azul Fidelidade elites flying on Etihad.
That could change over time, but for now, this is strictly a mileage-earning and redemption partnership.
Final Thoughts
With earning rates as high as 125% of flight miles and redemptions as low as 6,000 miles, this partnership sounds appealing at first blush. But travelers may need to dig deep to find value. Azul’s domestic fares are often inexpensive, and long-haul award prices rise sharply, making it difficult to find good value for your Etihad Guest miles.
Still, for short-haul redemptions within Brazil — especially on busy routes like São Paulo to Rio — Etihad Guest members may find this to be a useful, niche redemption option worth keeping in mind.
If you're looking to top off your Etihad Guest mileage balance for a redemption, here are your options:
