Aeroplan is offering a promotion for existing elite status members to extend their status through 2024 when earning 10,000 points on co-branded credit cards before October 31, 2023. This year, it's a targeted offer, so members need to check their email. This promotion is valid for all elite status tiers.
If you're looking to extend your Aeroplan elite status, here's what you need to know.
Aeroplan Elite Status Through 2024 Promotion
Air Canada currently has a targeted promotion for Aeroplan co-branded credit cardholders to extend their 2023 elite status through the end of 2024 after earning 10,000 points through their credit card. This promotion counts all spending from September 1, 2023 and runs until October 31, 2023. No registration is necessary. This year, only two months of spending are eligible — unlike last year, when the promotion ran from January 1 to November 30 and required 30,000 points.

Also unlike last year, this is a targeted promotion. Members are receiving this offer in their email several weeks after the promotion started, which is a bit strange. Regardless, you still have enough time to earn the 10,000 points required to extend your status through the end of 2024. There's also a chance this offer is only for Canadian Aeroplan co-branded cards, so Aeroplan® Credit Card holders might not have received the email.
If you hold more than one Aeroplan co-branded credit card, your bonus points across all your cards will count toward the 10,000 points necessary for this promotion. Spending by secondary cardholders also counts towards the promotion. However, only the primary cardholder can have their elite status extended through December 31, 2024.
It's important to note that points are usually posted to your account at the end of the billing cycle. Thus, you need the points to hit your account during the promotion period — which may mean your actual spending deadline is even earlier. Points from purchases you make on the final day of the promotion might not post in time.
Which status levels are eligible?
All elite status levels are eligible for extension through 2024 with this promotion, including Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K, and Super Elite Status. There is no change in the 10,000 required points to extend the status. It does not matter how you attained your elite status level for this promotion.
Terms and conditions
- The following purchases do not qualify as eligible purchases for the offer: cash advances, balance transfers, convenience cheques, fees, interest, and payments.
- Refunds, rebates, or credits on the account will cancel this offer if the minimum points are not earned over the offer period.
- It will take up to eight weeks for the status extension to process. Last year, the offer ran through November, so some members could have had their status paused for a few weeks in January. That doesn't seem to be a problem this year, as the offer ends in October.
- Secondary cardholders are not eligible to maintain their elite status, but their spending will count for this offer.
Not an existing cardholder?
Air Canada recently sent out emails to existing Aeroplan elite status holders promoting this offer. In that email, Aeroplan confirms that elite status holders who aren't already cardholders will still be eligible for this offer if they sign up for an Aeroplan credit card. Each credit card has different reward benefits, so it could behoove members to sign up for a new card in the next few weeks to earn extra points.
For instance, CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Card and the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Card get 2X points on Air Canada purchases and 1.5X points on gas, groceries, dining, food delivery, and other travel spending. The Aeroplan® Credit Card for those in the U.S. gets 3X points on groceries, dining, and Air Canada purchases but only 1X points on everything else.

Our Take
We're seeing more and more rewards programs offering elite status level extensions in more ways than direct participation in the program. This promotion is a great way for Aeroplan to offer an elite status extension to travelers for whom travel isn't quite back to normal.
For Aeroplan members who have elite status in 2023 and wish to extend it through 2024 — but who don't have the required Status Qualifying Miles (SQM), Status Qualifying Segments (SQS), or Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD) in 2023 to do so — this is a great alternative. Just realize you need an existing elite status level to extend through 2024 for this promotion. It's not an offer to generate status that you don't already have.
