Tired of searching for award stays one day at a time and coming up short? Well, worry no more — at least with Hyatt, that is. World of Hyatt just released a new function geared toward usability to make it less painful to search for availability for Hyatt free nights. The new Hyatt Points Calendar is already live and can help you find exactly what you need without wasting time.

Previously, you would see an award calendar showing nightly rates on points, but not showing actual availability for your free nights. Changes like these are invaluable and part of what makes the World of Hyatt program so popular with travelers.

How to Use Hyatt's New Points Calendar

Just like you normally do, head to Hyatt's website or the app and run a search. As usual, check the “Use Points” checkbox — this is what actually triggers the Points Calendar link to display, so don't forget this step.

Now all you have to do is click on the new Hyatt Points Calendar link. This opens a calendar view showing pricing and award availability for the entire month. You can specify three key details to narrow your results: number of nights, number of guests (adults and children), and room type (such as standard rooms, standard suites, or premium suites). Adjusting these settings will update the calendar to reflect pricing and availability based on your selections.

Those World of Hyatt members who are price points-conscious but are flexible with dates can finally leverage this functionality to find what nights work for them at a glance and help save them points.

How to see Hyatt’s new points calendar from the map view

Alternatively, if you don't actually know what hotel you want to stay at, and simply want to find out availability and pricing at a specific destination, the new Hyatt Points Calendar has you covered.

Just head to the site or app and search for your destination. Your results will show in the map, displaying the lowest award pricing, signaling availability for your specified dates. Conversely, if those dates aren't available on points, that property will still display in the map. However, it will instead show the cash rate. That way, you can see what hotels are cheapest on points while confirming actual real time availability for those free nights.

For those hotels that showed no availability on points, you can click on the hotel's “View Rates” button. This will take you straight to the hotel's landing site. There, you will see the new Points Calendar so that you can see what dates are indeed available at that elusive property in one go in the calendar view.

Bottom Line

Hyatt is definitely earning a more preferential spot in my heart with the addition of these usability improvements. This shows that they do listen to members' feedback. Also, they're willing to invest in ways that remove friction from the user experience in the World of Hyatt program. No longer will you see “theoretical” point prices only to find there is no availability for that date.

I know this will help me waste less time trying to find the cheapest dates for me to stay at Hyatt properties based on availability given my flexibility with dates. More of this, please!
