The bottom line is that everyone likes free points, especially those that require the least effort or the minimum expenditure. Two days ago, we pointed out a way to pick an easy 1,000 IHG points, just for signing-up to their survey partner and taking an online survey. Want some more points? IHG will give you 1,000 points on your birthday—all you need to do is tell them when it is.
The deal is simple enough; IHG has been giving Rewards Club members 1,000 points on the day listed as their birthday in their profile information. All you need to do is head over to the IHG website, sign in and head over to your account page. From there head to your personal information, and you will find the option to set your birthday at the bottom of the page.
While it may be tempting to keep changing your birthday going forward, to keep picking up the bonus, it’s probably not a good idea. Indeed, to change your birthday once you have registered it, IHG requires you to call them up and change it over the phone. How many times IHG will let you do this is unknown. Also, the only logical reason you can give IHG for changing your birthday, is that the information is incorrect, so it is unknown whether IHG will let you keep the birthday points that were awarded on the wrong date.
While it is only 1,000 points, which is not impressive within itself, it’s not bad either especially if you are planning a trip with the Current IHG PointBreaks promotion; then picking up 1,000 points is 20% off the cost of one night. Combine it with the survey offer of 1000 points and you have a 40% of the needed points for a night’s stay.
