United Airlines Premier luggage tags are unique ways for elite members to show off their earned status. The opportunity to claim them has rolled around again for anyone who achieved Premier elite status for 2025. Unlike in previous years, tags aren't set out automatically — you have to request them. Furthermore, there are some limitations members need to know.
Here are the details on how to request your United luggage tag.
What Are United Luggage Tags?
United luggage tags are available by request to all United elite status members — including Premier Silver, Gold, Platinum, and 1K.
In pre-pandemic times, United luggage tags were automatically sent to MileagePlus members. This time around, elite members must specifically request a luggage tag in their MileagePlus portal. Here's how to do so:
- Click this link for the United MyStatus portal.
- You'll be prompted to log in if you haven't already done so.
- Scroll down to the “Request a luggage tag” section.
- Click “Request Now” to begin your request.
Tag requests will be processed within 8-10 weeks.
Note that only United MileagePlus elite status members with a status for 2025 can make a request. If your Premier status is not valid for all of 2025, you might not have the option to claim a tag. It's worth noting that trial elite statuses (such as those gained from the United status match) are also ineligible to claim luggage tags.
It does not matter how you achieved your Premier elite status for 2025 as long as it is valid for the whole year. Even if you matched your status from another airline or Marriott via the RewardsPlus program, you can still request your luggage tag.

Is It Worth Requesting a United Luggage Tag?
United luggage tags are a nice perk, but they're just fancy tags for your baggage to show off your status. There's a chance your bags might get better service from United baggage handlers, but it's more likely that they will register an elite status from the barcode scan than from the tag itself.
The tag won't expedite or bypass the check-in process. And it doesn't include GPS, so you should still consider purchasing an AirTag, Tile, or SmartTag to track your luggage. Finally, they don't guarantee preferential treatment on your flight beyond the benefits of your Premier status. However, you might get a small benefit if a flight attendant sees the tag while on the plane.
How To Level Up Your United Elite Status in 2025
You have a few avenues available if you don't already hold United MileagePlus Premier elite status for 2025.
The most basic way to earn United elite status is with Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) or a combination of PQPs and Premier Qualifying Flights (PQFs). Minimally, you will need to earn 5,000 PQPs and then either 15 PQFs or another 6,000 PQPs to attain Premier Silver. You can either earn PQPs on flights with United and partner airlines or through qualified spending on United credit cards.
- 2X miles per $1 spent on purchases from United®
- 2X miles per $1 spent on dining and hotel stays when booked with the hotel
- 1X mile per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Earn 4 miles per $1 spent on United® purchases
- Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on all other travel
- Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on dining
- Earn 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases
- 2x on United® purchases
- 2x on local transit and commuting — including train tickets, taxicabs, mass transit, tolls and ride share services
- 2x at gas stations, restaurants and office supply stores
- 1x on all other purchases
Another way to attain United Premier status is with a status match challenge from other airlines or Marriott Bonvoy. Seven airlines are participating in this status match challenge to United MileagePlus, matching an existing elite status with them to as high as Premier Platinum. On the other hand, if you have a Marriott Titanium Elite status or above, you can match your Bonvoy status to United Premier Silver.
Finally, if you already have United Premier elite status, you can buy up to a higher Premier status with miles or cash. This isn't the most cost-effective way to earn status, but it's an option nonetheless.

United luggage tags are a fun little perk for United Premier elite status members. Just make sure you're aware of all the benefits that luggage tags can and can't give you.
If you've already achieved elite status for 2025, you should be able to claim a luggage tag. Otherwise, you might have to wait until later this year after you attain elite status to request them.
