TSA Pre✓ has announced the addition of 3 new airlines to the list of airlines participating in TSA Pre✓. Of the 3 new carriers, 2 are international carriers—Norwegian and Icelandair—and one is domestic: Via Air. While both international carriers’ membership is effective immediately, Via Air is coming onboard effective November 1, 2018.
Other Trusted Traveler Options
Remember that TSA Pre✓ is not the only trusted traveler program in the United States. You can join other programs like CLEAR, Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS. The program you should join will depend on your travel patterns, residence, and nationality.
To find out the program that best suits you, you can use the Department Of Homeland Security’s matching tool. If you do decide to join a trusted traveler program, remember to pay for your application fee with one of the many credit cards that provide a statement credit to cover the fees of enrolling in a trusted traveler program.
Our Take
The more airlines that join TSA Pre✓ the better, since this helps make the airport experience much smoother. Just make sure that your Known Traveler Number is added to your bookings, so you can access the TSA Pre✓ lanes at airports, and breeze through security.

If you have global entry can you use the TSA Pre line? Yet often I see that foreign carriers cannot add that to your boarding pass, as they have no way to record your Global Entry number. Its quite frustrating when you have that program and yet you still must queue in the standard TSA lines which are always long.
Are there any reciprocal agreements with other nations outside of North America to expedite customs similar to how Global Entry works when coming back to the US? I just got Global Entry and am enjoying TSA Pre but want to make sure I’m not missing a benefit…
Not yet — but in London you may get through faster with access to e-gates: https://lifehacker.com/now-u-s-citizens-can-jump-the-epically-long-customs-li-1830091221
Norwegian coming onboard is the most meaningful for me, but I’m just glad they continue to add airlines to the program. I hope they will also add more gate agents and lanes, in LA in particular. Also adding more regional airports. I’ve encountered some long lines and minor hassles in smaller airports as well.
Every additional airline that is added makes it so much more valuable. nothing better than skipping a huge line at the airport with TSA pre.
I wish JAL would
Why pay for TSApre when global Entry is only $15 more,
which include TSApre?
Awsome! Have an Iceland air flight on the 17th.
Great additions. This seems to be growing at a fast rate.
Nice to see Norwegian getting in on it. Global Entry is nice on the return, but this will ease the outbound pain.
I wasn’t familiar with Via Air since it doesn’t serve my immediate area and has a limited route structure compared to some of the larger airlines. Nonetheless, if you’re flying between the destinations that it does serve, then TSA Pre-Check could save you some time even in some of the less congested airports.
We’ve never joined but for some reason we keep getting Pre-Check when we fly. Guess we don’t look that threatening.
I’d be very surprised if that continues with the recent legislative changes in progress: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/6265
This would have been nice recently on Norwegian Air from JFK. The security line at TSA took 1.5 hours to go through. The precheck line was pretty long too though.
I think that Global Entry is the way to go for my current travel needs, which includes TSA Precheck.
An analysis on different trusted traveler programs would be nice 🙂

Thanks. I was considering an Icelandair flight (with a stop-over). This makes it look more appealing.
Really? TSA Pre is going to be the thing that seals the deal for you?
That’s an interesting take. I guess they got him with pre-check.
I just needed a little push to make a decision 🙂
If that is not enough then the Lounge at Keflavik airport is one of the most amazing ones in Europe. I always make sure I have enough time to spend there 🙂
Yay for Norwegian finally being added. Though I’m still waiting for Aer Lingus to get the green check from TSA 🙂
