Everything's bigger in Texas — including The Centurion® Lounge. Well, at least it will be.
On April 1, 2026, American Express announced plans to expand and renovate its outpost at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). And the issuer is working on a relatively short timeline to grow the lounge’s footprint and introduce new amenities.
Here’s what you can expect from the newly renovated Centurion Lounge at DFW once it opens.
Amex to Expand and Renovate Its DFW Centurion Lounge
Airport lounges these days are busy places, and beyond adding new ones, issuers and operators are increasingly focused on finding creative ways to renovate and expand existing spaces. And that’s exactly what American Express plans to do with its DFW Centurion Lounge.
The DFW Centurion Lounge has been through this before. It originally opened in 2013 as a roughly 9,000-square-foot space, then was expanded and renovated in 2018 to about 12,500 square feet. Now, Amex will grow the space again.
This time, the issuer plans to grow the lounge’s footprint by about 50%, which will bring it closer to 19,000 square feet. Along with the added space, Amex will refresh the interior design with Western- and desert-inspired decor and introduce several new amenities, including a walk-up ice cream bar, a second full-service bar, a new dining area, and additional seating.
Based on the press release Amex shared on April 1, 2026, the expanded lounge is expected to open in 2027. However, we're not sure if that’ll be in the first or second half of the year.

What we don't know about the DFW Centurion Lounge expansion
The press release didn’t specify when construction will begin. And it’s also unclear whether the lounge will fully close during the renovation period. While a temporary closure would make sense, Amex hasn’t shared if that's the plan or whether eligible Card Members will have an alternative space to use in the meantime.
If we had to guess, Card Members may be directed to one of the Priority Pass lounges at DFW. Eligible Card Members can access these lounges through the Priority Pass Select benefit, which is a staple perk of cards like the American Express Platinum Card® and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.

Bottom Line
American Express has big plans to grow the footprint of its Centurion Lounge at DFW by 50% and add plenty of new Card Member-friendly amenities, including more seating, an ice cream bar, a second full-service bar, and more. And these enhancements could arrive sooner than you might expect. Amex is targeting a 2027 reopening.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the project, including if, when, and how long the lounge will close before reopening. If this is a lounge you frequent, check back for updates.
