Word to the wise: Never buy a Delta gift card if there isn't an active promotion. In the past few months, we've seen Delta gift card promotions ranging from bonus SkyMiles to a Starbucks gift card and even a year of Paramount+.
Starting today, there's a new way to get rewarded for your purchase. Through July 20, 2026, you can get a year of complimentary access to The New York Times when you buy a Delta gift card of $500 or more.
Here are the key terms and how to take advantage of the promotion — and maximize it to the fullest.
Buy a $500+ Delta Gift Card, Get a Year of New York Times All Access
Now through July 20, 2026, Delta is offering a year of New York Times All Access with a Delta gift card purchase of $500 or more. No enrollment is required to take advantage of this offer.
You'll receive one New York Times Access Code per person, so you can't earn multiple codes by making multiple purchases.
While Delta gift cards don’t expire, the New York Times access code will expire on June 28, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. ET if not redeemed by then.
Key terms
As with any promotion, there are some important terms to know for this Delta gift card bonus SkyMiles offer:
- Buy $500 or more in Delta Gift cards from https://buy.giftcards.delta.com by July 20, 2026, and earn twelve months of complimentary access to New York Times All Access.
- Eligible customers can only receive one New York Times Voucher per eligible SkyMiles member.
- The access code will be emailed separately from the Delta Gift Card to the email address on file at the time of purchase.
- The access code will expire on June 28, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. ET if you haven't redeemed it by that date.

[Expired] Earn 5X Bonus SkyMiles Using a Delta Credit Card via Amex Offers
If you want to fully maximize your purchase, consider using a co-branded Delta credit card to buy your Delta gift card. Your Delta card might have a targeted Amex Offer to earn 5X bonus SkyMiles per $1 spent on Delta gift cards through July 14, 2026, up to 10,000 bonus SkyMiles.
To max out this offer, you'd need to enroll and spend $2,000 on Delta gift cards. Unfortunately, this offer states that you can only receive one access code per person. Unlike in past promotions, you don't need to split your $2,000 in gift card purchases to receive multiple gift card offers. You can buy one $2,000 gift card to earn a New York Times subscription and 10,000 bonus miles.
Keep in mind that this bonus is in addition to what you'd earn by using your card for your purchase to begin with.

Our Take
There are a couple of reasons why you might consider buying a Delta gift card now. The obvious one is the year of New York Times All Access; it’s an easy way to squeeze a little more value out of a $500+ purchase. However, remember that The New York Times is an eligible merchant for the digital entertainment credit available to cardholders of the American Express Platinum Card®, so this offer isn't the only way to get a New York Times subscription.
Another reason to consider buying a gift card is if you’re actively working to earn Delta Medallion status this year. Even though you won’t earn bonus Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) on the purchase of a Delta gift card directly, you will if you pay with a Delta credit card that earns bonus MQDs per $10 or $20 spent. It’s an easy way to generate a bit of extra spending to accelerate your Medallion earnings. Plus, if you enroll in the Amex Offer, you'll earn 5X bonus SkyMiles, up to 10,000 miles.

But if you’re not chasing MQDs, remember that Delta processes its gift card sales directly. That means gift card purchases should be coded as airfare.
