Marriott is one of the world's largest hotel chains, with nearly 10,000 properties across more than three dozen brands. There's truly an option out there for any type of traveler. This statement couldn't ring truer than after Marriott's latest announcement: the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors and The Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy.
Whether you prefer camping to a night at the Ritz-Carlton, or you plan your travels around adventure sports, the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors is a way to engage a large subset of travelers with the Bonvoy brand. Here's everything you need to know about Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors.
What Is Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors?
Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors is a “portfolio of hotels and experiences in breathtaking outdoors destinations.” In other words, it's a collection of over 450 properties around the world that help you do what you love, across seven activity verticals:
- Ski & Snowboard
- Hike & Glamp
- Bike
- Surf
- Fish
- Kayak & Canoe
- Scuba & Snorkel

For example, let's say you want to be able to scuba dive on your next vacation. You can navigate to the Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors website, select “scuba & snorkel” and the region you want to go to, and search for properties.

Once you select your destination, you'll be taken to the classic search with filters applied so you know you can participate in your desired activity at the resorts shown in the search results. In addition to finding Marriott Bonvoy properties in the great outdoors, you can earn points on more than 29,000 tours led by local experts through Marriott Bonvoy Tours & Activities. This way, you don't have to be an expert in your desired activity before you arrive. You can simply book a tour and earn Bonvoy points in the process.
If you don't want to filter by activity, but you still want an escape to the outdoors, you can use the dedicated Outdoor Collection booking portal. You can find everything from cabins to boutique hotels with Trailborn. The Outdoor Collection features a variety of retreats, all rooted in nature, but complete with the modern comforts you're accustomed to with the Marriott portfolio.

Limited-Time Promotion: Drop Pin Challenge
Marriott placed Drop Pins in 20 destinations across the U.S. and Canada to celebrate the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors. You can see the full list of locations and clues on the dedicated Drop Pin Challenge page.
When you find a pin, scan the code to earn 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. If you find all 20 pins, that's 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. However, it'll take some coordinating — these pins are sprinkled throughout the country, from the Catskills to the Grand Canyon and everywhere in between.

The challenge ends on October 31, 2025, so be sure to find as many pins as you can before Halloween. To participate in the challenge, you must be a legal resident of the U.S. or Canada (excluding Quebec) and be 18 or older. I know I'll be searching for a few pins before the deadline.
Bottom Line
If you want to blend the relaxation you find in nature with the comfort you associate with Marriott, the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors and The Outdoor Collection is great news. Marriott Bonvoy Traveler also has some great trip ideas based on your favorite outdoor activities, including recommendations of places to stay.
In my opinion, the more filters we can have when searching for a hotel, the better. I want to spend as little time searching for my next stay as possible. If I know I want to scuba dive or snowboard on my trip, it's great to have a way to book a stay with that in mind. Plus, the Drop Pin Challenge is an exciting way to earn a few thousand Marriott Bonvoy points.
