If you've been waiting for a chance to save on Aeroplan points, Aeroplan has launched a new buy-points promotion. For a limited time, Air Canada is offering Aeroplan members up to a 110% bonus when purchasing points. With the maximum bonus, you can buy Aeroplan points for as little as 1.79 Canadian cents (about 1.27 U.S. cents) per point.
If you want to take advantage of this promotional rate, you'll need to act before it expires on August 12, 2026. Below, we'll show you some examples of when it makes sense to pull out your wallet.
This promotion is targeted, so some members might report seeing a different bonus (or potentially a discount) when they log into their account.
At the time of writing, $1 USD equals $1.40 CAD. Since a majority of AwardWallet Learn readers are U.S.-based, all prices in this post are converted to USD (unless otherwise stated in CAD).
Aeroplan Buy Points Offer Details
- This up to 110% bonus promotion is currently running and ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on August 12, 2026.
- The minimum purchase amount is 2,000 points (no bonus).
- Must purchase at least 5,000 points to receive the minimum bonus (55% bonus).
- Must purchase at least 90,000 points to receive the best bonus (110% bonus).
- You can buy a maximum of 500,000 Aeroplan points per transaction and 1,000,000 per calendar year — before any bonus.
- You can only gift a total of 500,000 Aeroplan points in a calendar year.
- Purchased points are non-refundable and non-reversible.
- Points purchased, transferred, or received as a gift do not count towards elite status qualification.
- Aeroplan will typically credit purchased/gifted points within 72 hours of the transaction.

For Aeroplan members who are seeing the 110% bonus, you will be able to buy points at the following rates (note the increments widen as you buy more points):
- 2,000–4,000 points: No bonus (3.75¢ CAD = 2.67¢ USD)
- 5,000–25,000 points: 60% bonus (2.34¢ CAD = 1.67¢ USD)
- 30,000–80,000 points: 80% bonus (2.08¢ CAD = 1.48¢ USD)
- 90,000–500,000 points: 110% bonus (1.79¢ CAD = 1.27¢ USD)
Members can buy a maximum of 1,050,000 Aeroplan points (500k base + 550k bonus) for a cost of $18,750 CAD ($13,348 USD). That comes out to 1.27¢ USD per point.
You can get the same rate when buying as few as 189,000 Aeroplan points (90k base + 99k bonus) for a cost of $3,375 CAD ($2,403 USD):

In recent AwardWallet user redemptions, Aeroplan points have provided an average value of 1.86¢ each. However, the value varies depending on what type of redemption you make:
- Short-haul economy: 1.21¢
- Long-haul economy/premium economy: 1.27¢
- Short-haul business/first: 2.56¢
- Long-haul business/first: 2.63¢
In other words, grabbing points can be worth considering if you can get an outsized redemption on Air Canada or one of its 40+ partner airlines.

When Should You Buy Aeroplan Points?
As with every opportunity to buy points and miles with a bonus or discount, it's important to do the math and evaluate your situation before pulling out your wallet. This holds especially true when buying from Aeroplan — which requires U.S.-based travelers to factor in the conversion from Canadian Dollars. And since award programs can devalue with little notice, you're better off holding onto your cash.
With that said, there are a few instances where it can make sense to buy airline miles and points. The first and most obvious is if you are just a few points short of a redemption. If spending a small amount can unlock more value from your existing points balance, this is a no-brainer.
Another consideration: If you lack points and miles to use for an upcoming flight. If you are looking at paying cash anyway, do the math to see if you would pay less to buy points from Aeroplan and then redeem them for an award ticket. If so, save money and make the redemption (after confirming that award seats are available first, of course).
You should not consider buying Aeroplan points solely to create activity on your account. There are other methods of extending the life of your Aeroplan point balance if that's your concern.

This promotion's up to 110% bonus is one of the best promotions we've ever seen from Air Canada. So, it could make sense to buy Aeroplan points if you have excellent uses of them planned for travel in 2026.
Our general recommendation is to first transfer points from transfer partners rather than buying miles (if possible). But this promotion is still worth grabbing some Aeroplan points at this rate if you have a sweet redemption in mind, and your transferable point balances could be used for better use elsewhere.
To reiterate the point, it's generally a good idea to wait until you have an immediate redemption in mind before buying Aeroplan points. Program values and award availability can change, which is amplified even more for a program like Aeroplan that requires you to convert from Canadian Dollars. Just note that this promotion ends on August 12, 2026.

I need to hit the spend for a bonus on the Rakuten card, but it imposes a 3% foreign transaction fee afaik. Anyway to get around this and have these priced in USD instead of CAD?
Not that we’ve found. Several other airlines offer a USD or local currency option, but Aeroplan seems to only sell points in CAD.
Mine is showing 90% bonus or 50k max as well as my friend showing the same thing . not sure who is getting 110% or 90 k and based on what criteria ?

According to the Air Canada website (and app), the current promotion offers a 100% bonus (not 125%).
Dave, as stated in the post, it’s a mystery bonus with up to 125% but offers may vary.
Another great way to get Aeroplan points is to sign up for a site called “Asking Canadians” that gives you Aeroplan points for completing sur-veys. As with any panel, most of the time you get screened out. This one gives you 5 Aeroplan points even if you screen out, so it is a great way to keep Aeroplan points active. If you are offered to complete a sur-vey they offer 40 -100 points. N.B. You need a Canadian address to qualify to join the site
If you are looking to keep your points ‘active’, I did so by joining a sur-vey site called Asking Canadians that gives you Aeroplan points for completing surveys. As with any survey panel, most of the time you get screened out. This one gives you 2 or 3 Aeroplan points even if you screen out, so it is a great way to keep Aeroplan miles account active. Some surveys if you don’t get screened out offer 40-100 points for completing the survey. N.B.: You need a Canadian address to qualify to join the sur-vey site.
This is REALLY expensive. I can’t call it a promotion. Minimun 100 or 115% to condierer buying.

I think they are points and not miles since everything in Canada is in kilometres and despite using miles to measure distances to award points, the unit of measurement for miles isn’t something common north of the 49th parallel; just adding trivia… =)

Indeed, only buy the points when needed because nowadays new promotions will come around very soon.
I’ve found Aeroplan miles to be useful for United domestic flying to my great surprise. They also can be useful on STAR alliance partners for several int’l redemptions. This sale has a lot of potential value if you have a specific trip in mind in the near future.
The price per point is decent but be aware they do expire after 18 months if no activity in the account.
Air Canada is an excellent company. However they need to stop charging the horrendous fuel tax. This puts Aeroplan at a disadvantage compared to competitors.
