Best Ways to Redeem Flying Blue Miles
Flying Blue is the frequent flyer program of two major airlines: Air France and KLM. Naturally, you can use Flying Blue miles to book awards on either carrier. Plus, you can book awards on several SkyTeam partner airlines as well as several non-alliance partners. Better yet, Flying Blue has several sweet spots that are made 20% sweeter because of this transfer bonus. Some of our favorite examples include:
- Short-haul Delta flights (think Los Angeles to Las Vegas) for 5,000 Flying Blue miles one-way (9k Amex points round-trip).
- Air France/KLM business class awards to from North America to Europe from 60,000 Flying Blue miles (50k Amex points).
- KLM business class from the U.S. to South Africa via Amsterdam for 115,000 Flying Blue miles (96k Amex points).
One of the best ways to maximize this transfer bonus is by pairing it with Flying Blue’s monthly Promo Rewards. With the bonus in play, discounted economy awards to Europe that cost 18,750 miles drop to just 16,000 Amex points. And if you’re interested in business class, a 45,000-mile ticket would only set you back 38,000 Amex points.

Flying Blue Miles Expiration Policy
Flying Blue miles will expire if you don't have qualifying activity in the past 24 months. Unfortunately, transferring your Amex points to Flying Blue doesn't count as qualifying activity. You'll need to take a flight with Air France, KLM, or one of Flying Blue's SkyTeam partners if you are looking for a way to extend your mileage expiration. Or, you can extend the validity of your miles by spending on a Flying Blue co-branded credit card, like the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®.
Because of these policies, be extra careful that you don't transfer Amex points to Flying Blue if you won't be able to use these miles over the next two years.

Bottom Line
Transfer bonuses from Amex Membership Rewards to Flying Blue aren’t as common as they used to be. If you want to take advantage of the current 20% bonus, make sure to transfer points by October 31, 2025. There’s no telling when the next one will show up, but history suggests we likely won’t see another until around this time next year.
This bonus can unlock some fantastic sweet spots at excellent rates, so it’s worth acting quickly if you’re ready to put your rewards to work. And if you’re just a few miles short, remember that Flying Blue also partners with other transferable currencies and occasionally sells miles at a reasonable price.

I made a speculative transfer of 500k to Flying Blue since it’s the only reasonable transfer partner to access Skyteam awards. With 25% bonus it’s actually very competitive with any other Star Alliance or Oneworld programs.
Air France points are particularly worth it because cash fares can be very high and no one else operates the route at the same frequency. Take BHX-PAR, for example. There are 2 flights with Vueling usually at £80 return but only 2x a week vs Air France is easily £120+, rising to £200+ if you’re booking to fly within 2 weeks.
A good oppty with Anerican Express card holders. This option is much better than exchangin miles via American express awards…
Is this for US only or canada Amex as well?
US only, I believe. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a Canadian Amex account to check.
US only, I believe. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a Canadian Amex account to check.
except for the monthly specials, aren’t FB awards always cheaper on Virgin (which has a 30% transfer bonus).
I’m not sure that’s always the case. Perhaps for nonstop flights and on some routes. But I wouldn’t say that’s always the case.
I just miss this, anyone know if there is another promote later Y2022 for transfer bonus from AMEX MR to FlyingBlue miles…
LAX-PPT is another really good redemption, as well.
Agreed! Hard to find availability sometimes, but it’s a great sweet spot when you can find it.
25% is always a strong consideration.
Nice to see a bonus kicking around in Covid times. I hope to see more as they encourage us to travel again.
If you Brex acct – get 25% when you transfer Brex points to Avianca LifeMiles. I just did it earlier and the transfer was seamless and instant.
Thanks for the information!!
Very usefull
Excellent bonus for flying to Europe
Too bad chase really does not have these offers nearly as much as Amex
Would love too book a flying blue flight with my chase points- hopefully they extend the same promo for transfering!
I wish there was a way to book La Premiere on points. That would be a dream redemption!
Has anyone ever flown KLM? What’s it like and is it better than JetBlue?
Why is it that all of these things seem to be for Amex and not Chase?
I’d say it’s because, unfortunately, AmEx is simply outcompeting Chase right now in this space. I’m not sure how Chase is doing with the pandemic, but AmEx was a winner financially. And, they’re acting like it, by pushing for more customers on multiple fronts.
Chase has been raising their annual fees for their CC. $550 for a travel card when people are barely traveling feels excessive even with the additional benefits.
I am planning for next summer already. I am hesitant about booking anything though. I am sure a lot ppl feel that way. I wonder if we will see several of these bonuses from Amex and maybe chase to bring down the total of points ppl have with them?
Is this limited only to U.S. cards or extended to another countries?
We haven’t been able to find a terms and conditions page for this promotion, so we can’t know for sure. I’d recommend checking the Flying Blue website for your country to see if this promotion is being advertised.
It is definitely not a worldwide promo, as far as I know.
I could not SEE immediately when this expires!!!!! Please PUT expiry dates on the first line at the top so it is easily logged from an email account!!!
When a promotion has a known end date, we always include it in the intro. In this case, the end date isn’t disclosed by Flying Blue.
I couldn’t work out whether this applies to only Amex US cards?
It seems to be only limited to Amex US cards. But, since Flying Blue doesn’t have a landing page for this promotion, we can’t be sure.
I think that this is one of the best uses of my Amex points
I have been accumulating TYP in Citi’s eco system. Why is it so RARE to see that Citi offers this kind of bonus transfer promotion ??
Would love to see a chase promo for flying blue transfers!
The new AF business class looks fantastic; I would love to try it out.
This looks like one of the best promo for FB. I’ve used the 25% one in the past and combined with the monthly FB reduced mileage promo, it was a fantastic deal, around 32000 MR points for a business class from North America to Europe.
I wish there were more credit cards transfer offers to Flying Blue program, especially for EU customers.
Hello, this offer is valid for AMEX cards issued in Argentina?
Good question. It does not seem to be valid for cardholders in Argentina – as the promotion doesn’t show on Flying Blue’s website when I switch the country to Argentina.
For the business class product it is admittedly not a bad deal.
Yes, and this was my first flexible points transfer redemption, for biz on AF next May. Transferred 41000 MR points with the bonus and paid $271 out of pocket on my Amex Platinum, for a net of only 39645 MR points for the one-way (-41000 points spent + 1345 points earned). Thanks for the heads up!
Is this targeted? I checked 3 MR accounts and no 30% transfer bonus for Flying Blue.
This promotion is being offered by Flying Blue directly. There’s no landing page for this promotion, but you’ll find it advertised on this page: https://www.flyingblue.gr/en/home/explorer “Time-limited special offer Simply convert your Membership Rewards points into Miles”
