Most travelers know they can earn airline miles by flying, shopping online, or using a co-branded credit card — but far fewer realize they can earn miles just for going to a concert. Flying Blue quietly offers members the ability to earn miles on thousands of Ticketmaster events worldwide, and the process is surprisingly simple. Here’s how to turn your next concert ticket into extra Flying Blue miles.
Earn Flying Blue Miles With Concerts and Events
There are many ways to earn airline miles beyond just flying. Members can accrue miles with credit card spending, shopping portals, cruises… the list goes on. Another way to earn miles is through experiences, concerts, and events. In the U.S., both Delta and American Airlines offer portals to earn miles on Ticketmaster concerts and events. Flying Blue also offers members miles when booking concert and event tickets through Ticketmaster.
Booking Ticketmaster events with Flying Blue
This is a very straightforward opportunity. Use the Flying Blue Ticketmaster booking page (located here) to purchase tickets for concerts and events. The process is the same as using Ticketmaster normally, except that Flying Blue takes a commission (at no additional cost to the customer), and Flying Blue members earn miles. All Ticketmaster event tickets and verified resale tickets are available for purchase.
As Flying Blue is based in Europe, members earn 1 mile per €1 spent. Tickets purchased in currency other than euros will convert to euros and then earn at this same rate. Thus, members will earn slightly less than 1 mile per $1 spent and slightly more than 1 mile per £1 (if you're in the UK). Miles are earned on the base ticket price, excluding taxes and fees imposed by Ticketmaster.
Members earn tickets on the admission price, excluding taxes and fees. If the ticket price is $79, you'll pay about $107, including Ticketmaster taxes and fees. You will earn 68 Flying Blue miles on the purchase, taking into account the conversion from euros to dollars for the base ticket amount.
Any tickets purchased directly through Ticketmaster without going through the Flying Blue Ticketmaster booking page will not earn miles. Otherwise, all tickets purchased with this offer act as normal Ticketmaster tickets.
Choosing the right booking portal
If you prefer, you could choose to earn Delta SkyMiles or American Airlines AAdvantage miles on concert tickets instead. This comes down to how you value your miles. AwardWallet users have redeemed Flying Blue miles at an average of 2.16¢ per mile, and AAdvantage miles at 2.56¢ each. But remember that members get 1 Flying Blue point per ~$1.16, based on the conversion rate from euros.
However, a massive difference between the Flying Blue Ticketmaster booking portal and the portals from American Airlines and Delta. The U.S. booking portals are limited to concerts and events in the U.S. and Canada, while the Flying Blue booking portal includes concerts and events across Europe. In other words, if you want to earn miles on concerts in Europe, your only option is with Flying Blue.
