Another promotion has come out for American Express cardholders interested in InKind. Through March 18, 2024, Amex cardholders can claim a free annual InKind Pass subscription. With InKind Pass, members get 20% back on their dining experiences. Here are the details of this promotion.
InKind Pass
For those not familiar, InKind is a new type of restaurant investment platform, where independent, local restaurants receive an investment in exchange for food and beverage credits. Members pre-pay through the InKind app and can then use their credit to dine at over 1,000 curated restaurants across the U.S.

Restaurants are primarily in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, and Washington D.C. But there are also quite a few in other states, such as Washington, Nevada, and Ohio.
InKind Pass is a subscription plan members can purchase for $9.99 a month or $100 a year. This subscription gives you 20% back on your meal. As long as you're spending $50 a month through InKind (enough to cover the monthly cost of the subscription), you'll be saving even more on your meals.
Instead of using InKind credits you've purchased previously, you must link a credit or debit card to your InKind Pass account and pay your bill with that. You will earn 20% credit on your bill, available for future InKind restaurant dining. If you use pre-purchased InKind credits, you will not earn 20% back, as pre-purchased credits already receive a bonus.

Gratuity, tips, service charges, and fees cannot be paid with InKind Pass and will be charged to the credit card on file. To close a check, let the server know you'll be paying with InKind. Open the inKind app and tap “Pay.” Select the venue, and you'll be guided through the check-closing process.
Free Annual InKind Pass Subscription for Amex Cardholders
Through March 18, 2024, American Express is offering a free annual subscription to InKind Pass, valued at $100, to anyone with an Amex card issued in the U.S. That includes all co-branded cards as well. Simply sign up for the annual InKind Pass plan using your Amex card, then you will receive the $100 as a statement credit on your next statement. This promotion is only valid on the annual subscription plan — not the monthly plan. As long as you subscribe to the plan before March 18, 2024, you can receive the statement credit, effectively enjoying a free year of InKind Pass.
The full subscription terms are available here.
Our Take
InKind is a really interesting concept. I like the idea of supporting independent, local restaurants with investments that translate directly to food purchases. Instead of paying back investments with cash, restaurants pay back investments directly to customers with food. Of course, the platform is betting on members not using all of their credit, especially as restaurants must give twice the value of the investment in food. In other words, restaurants that receive $100,000 from InKind then give InKind $200,000 worth of food and beverage credits.
Some of our readers could be in locations without any InKind restaurants, or perhaps just one or two, and might not want to eat at those same restaurants throughout the year. Then again, this is a free offer from American Express, worth taking advantage of. Perhaps you'll be traveling to a city with InKind restaurants before your free annual subscription plan expires. Just remember that you can't use pre-purchased InKind credits with InKind Pass. If you're interested, sign up no later than March 18, 2024.
