Update: Chase rolled out changes on July 11, 2024, but pared back the loss of benefits. Click here to learn more about the full scope of changes.

This July, enhancements are coming to the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card. And if by “enhancements,” you think the card might get better, we're sorry to burst your bubble. In a few months, the Bonvoy Bold will actually lose benefits. Funny how that works.

Semantics aside, here's what you need to know about what'll soon change with the Bonvoy Bold.

“Enhancements” Coming to the Bonvoy Bold Card

If you pay a visit to the Bonvoy Bold‘s application page today, you'll notice something that wasn't there a few days ago. It's a mention of “New Enhancements Coming Soon,” taking effect on July 11, 2024.

From that date on, new applicants won't have access to two benefits that current cardholders do. The 15 complimentary Elite Night Credits awarded at the beginning of the year are going away, as is the 2X spending category on eligible travel purchases.

The most significant implication of the changes is that it'll take a bit more effort to earn Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. It won't come free with the card anymore.

What'll replace the lost benefits?

Chase hasn't officially shared what'll replace the lost benefits on the $0-annual-fee Bonvoy Bold — if anything. All we know is what a Chase spokesperson has told us, which was this:

“The changes coming to the Marriott Bonvoy Bold Card aim to help cardmembers earn more on a variety of popular categories to unlock future free nights and travel experiences. Additional, exciting enhancements will be announced later this year.”

Given that “enhancements” rarely mean what the dictionary says it does, it's hard to stay optimistic about what positive changes may or may not be coming to the Bonvoy Bold. More than likely, the number of Elite Night Credits and the earning rates will be less fruitful after the changes.

So, if you've had your eye on the current welcome offer and want to leverage the current suite of benefits until the changes impact currently open accounts, you'll want to apply before July 11, 2024.

Final Thoughts

On July 11, 2024, changes are coming to the Bonvoy Bold. Based on what Chase has shared on the card's application page, these “enhancements” will result in the departure of a couple of benefits. As to what will replace those benefits — if anything — that's anyone's guess.
