Back in 2024, Scandinavian Airlines (better known as SAS) changed its jersey and left Star Alliance to join SkyTeam. That change meant SAS flights became bookable through Delta, which was great news for anyone with a bunch of SkyMiles and a dream of traveling throughout Europe.

When the partnership first rolled out, only a select few SAS itineraries were bookable through Delta. But times have changed. Here's what the partnership looks like today — and which routes you can book.

SAS Routes Bookable With Delta SkyMiles

SAS is a major airline and flies to several destinations worldwide from its three hubs in Northern Europe: Copenhagen (CPH), Oslo (OSL), and Stockholm (ARN). You can fly SAS as far west as San Francisco (SFO), as far east as Tokyo-Haneda (HND), and as far north as Longyearbyen (LYR) in the Arctic Circle. You can also visit a handful of destinations in northern Africa and the Middle East.

In 2025, Delta and SAS announced an expansion of their codeshare agreement. Not only does that mean that more routes became available through Delta, but it's also more convenient for travelers. You can have a Delta-operated flight and a SAS-operated flight on a single itinerary, which makes checking bags and transiting through airports much easier. If you want to redeem Delta SkyMiles for a SAS ticket, you're still limited to a smaller route network.

Example routes you can book

You can find plenty of nonstop intra-European flights, and pricing on these routes is very similar to what Delta charges for other SkyTeam partners, such as Air France or KLM.

After consulting Seats.aero, it appears that nonstop SAS flights from North America to Europe are still restricted, so you cannot book them with your SkyMiles. You can find some connecting itineraries, like Toronto (YYZ) to London (LHR) via Copenhagen (CPH). However, it doesn't make a ton of sense to do that when Delta-operated flights are far cheaper.

Interestingly, you can find wide-open availability from hubs like Copenhagen to hubs across the U.S., like this flight from Copenhagen (CPH) to Seattle (SEA) for 31,000 SkyMiles.

You can also find some long-haul availability departing from SAS's European hubs. For instance, fly from Copenhagen (CPH) to Agadir, Morocco (AGA) for 15,000 SkyMiles in economy or 25,000 SkyMiles in business.

Or, go from Copenhagen (CPH) to Seoul (ICN) for 50,000 SkyMiles each way in economy.

While the availability of SAS awards through Delta SkyMiles is still somewhat limited, it's much more extensive than it was when the partnership first launched a few years ago.

SAS Awards Bookable Through Other SkyTeam Programs

At AwardWallet, we've harped on the value of SkyTeam frequent flyer programs — including Air France/KLM Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Both programs can provide outsized value for their easy-to-earn mileage currencies. Thus, we're excited that SAS awards are available to these partner programs, as this opens up additional avenues to get to Europe using points and miles.

Here's a quick glance at some SAS flights bookable through Virgin Atlantic and Air France.

Virgin Atlantic offers much better award availability for nonstop flights from the U.S. to Europe. Fly from New York (EWR) to Stockholm (ARN) for 20,500 points in economy or 37,500 points in premium economy.

Or, fly from New York (JFK) to Oslo (OSL) for the same rates.

Air France also offers great ways to book SAS flights. Fly nonstop from Copenhagen (CPH) to San Francisco (SFO) for 43,800 miles in economy or 105,100 miles in business.

Before booking, compare availability between Delta, Virgin Atlantic, and Air France. Odds are, one of the programs offers the flight you're looking for. In the rare instance that none of these programs offer availability, you can now transfer Rove Miles directly to SAS EuroBonus at a 1:1 ratio. In other words, you should have no issue booking an award seat on a SAS-operated flight.

If you want to take advantage of this redemption opportunity, you'll need Delta SkyMiles. The easiest way to build your balance is to transfer points from American Express to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio. Alternatively, you can transfer points from a variety of hotel programs to Delta SkyMiles at less-optimal rates:
