Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses are some of the best airport lounges around. These are Virgin's most premium lounges, and there are only six locations worldwide.

Access to these Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse lounges is one of the many great benefits available to top-tier Virgin Atlantic Gold Elite status members and Upper Class passengers, as well as Priority Pass members and select other travelers.

In this guide, we will discuss where to find Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses, who can access them, and everything else you need to know.

U.S. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Locations and Hours

Virgin Atlantic currently has four Clubhouse lounge locations across the U.S.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at LAX is located beyond the TSA checkpoint on the sixth floor of the Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B). It opens about four hours before all Virgin Atlantic flights, which means it's usually open between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. daily. The LAX Clubhouse features Hollywood nightlife-inspired decor, mood lighting, and signature cocktails.

Amenities at this lounge include the following:

  • Wireless charging, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of plug-in points
  • Mood lighting
  • Private, acoustically-sealed work studios
  • Exclusive Royal Box booth with adjustable mood lighting
  • The Zen Den — a private space with guided meditation, a personal disco, and showers featuring Flamingo Estate's Garden Essentials collection
  • Complimentary table service meals, signature cocktails, non-alcoholic and health-conscious drinks, and vegetarian and vegan options

San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

The San Francisco Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is located past security in International Terminal A near Gate 1A on level 5. The lounge is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The decor reflects the design of San Francisco, including its harbor lighting and other iconic local landmarks. This Clubhouse features the following amenities:

  • Complimentary West Coast-inspired dishes with locally-sourced ingredients
  • Complimentary signature cocktails, local beers, and Californian wines
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Shower facilities

Washington, D.C.-Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Washington Dulles International Airport has a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse located in Concourse A, adjacent to Gate A32. The decor is modern and light, catering to VIPs traveling through the nation's capital. It's open daily from four hours before the departure of the first Virgin Atlantic flight of the day.

Here, you will find the following amenities:

  • Complimentary meals, wines, beers, and signature cocktails
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Shower facilities
  • Luggage storage

How to Access Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Lounges in the U.S.

Access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses is certainly exclusive. Only passengers flying in specific cabins, with specific loyalty statuses, and certain transit passengers are eligible to enter these lounges. Furthermore, you can only visit these lounges up to three hours before your departing flight. Arriving passengers don't have access to these lounges.

In most cases, eligible passengers are permitted to bring one guest into the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse.

Flying Virgin Atlantic or Delta Air Lines

The following passengers can access Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses when flying with Virgin Atlantic:

  • Virgin Atlantic Upper Class passengers, plus a guest who is also traveling on a Virgin Atlantic or Delta flight
  • Delta One business class passengers flying internationally, but no guest access.
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold status members and a guest traveling internationally with Virgin Atlantic or Delta
  • SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on a Virgin Atlantic or Delta flight, and a guest traveling on the same flight

Additionally, passengers with Air New Zealand Gold or Elite status traveling on a Virgin Atlantic flight can get into the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses at SFO and LAX.

Passengers can also access these Virgin Atlantic lounges when connecting, so long as the following conditions are met:

  • Must be traveling in Upper Class or Delta One or
  • Must be a Flying Club Gold, Platinum Medallion, Diamond Medallion, Gold Medallion, or SkyTeam Elite Plus member
  • Passengers must have the same itinerary, same ticket and day, and on an international flight
  • At the SFO and IAD clubhouses, SkyTeam Elite Plus members must depart on a SkyTeam member carrier

Flying on partner airlines

Typically, access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses is not possible when flying with partner airlines that aren't Delta. However, there is one exception at JFK. Passengers flying first class or business class on China Airlines can access the JFK Clubhouse.

Through Priority Pass

Priority Pass members also have complimentary access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses — with the exception of the LAX location, which charges an additional $35 fee per person. Priority Pass members have reported that food and drinks are not complimentary, so consider this if you use Priority Pass to visit a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses have specific opening hours for Priority Pass members, which are different from the full lounge hours. These are the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses in the Priority Pass network, and when Priority Pass members can access them:

  • JFK Clubhouse: 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily
  • SFO Clubhouse: 9 a.m. to noon and 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily
  • IAD Clubhouse: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily
  • LAX Clubhouse: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and requires an additional $35 per person

Several credit cards, such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, offer various levels of Priority Pass membership (enrollment required). With the Priority Pass, you can access the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses, which would otherwise be exclusive to the fares or elite status members listed above.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Locations Abroad

Virgin Atlantic also has two clubhouses outside the U.S. in London and Johannesburg. These lounges are a bit different, primarily in terms of who is allowed to access them.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in London-Heathrow is located in the Upper Class Wing of Terminal 3. It is open from 6:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. or until the last departure.

As the flagship lounge, it is designed more like a 5-star hotel. Passengers can enjoy freshly made meals, signature cocktails (such as the Virgin Redhead), or even afternoon tea. Healthy meals for children, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and kosher meals, are available. The lounge also has quiet workspaces, swing seats, shower facilities, a pool table, and even Peloton bikes, among other amenities.

Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB)

The Johannesburg Airport Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is located on the mezzanine level of the international retail area within international departures, after airport security. Virgin's website does not advertise when the lounge is open.

This Clubhouse embraces the earthy tones of Africa, with a parquet floor, soft lighting, and more. The lounge has the following amenities:

  • Complimentary meals, snacks, and drink service, including South African wines
  • Shower facilities
  • Luggage storage

How to Access International Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses

The London and Johannesburg Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses have different access rules from U.S. lounges. The most notable difference is that transit passengers do not have access. Considering London is one of the biggest transit cities in the world, this undoubtedly helps to keep the lounge from getting too busy.

Passengers in premium cabins

London and Johannesburg clubhouses allow passengers traveling in Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to access these lounges. They can also bring a guest traveling on a Virgin Atlantic or Delta flight.

The London clubhouse also allows passengers traveling in Delta One or Class Premier on Aeromexico to access the clubhouses. However, these passengers can't bring any guests with them.

Passengers with elite status

London and Johannesburg allow passengers with the following elite statuses access to the lounges:

  • Flying Club Gold members and a guest traveling with Virgin Atlantic. In London, guests can also travel with Delta or Aeromexico and still be eligible to get into the lounge.
  • In London, Delta SkyMiles Diamond and Platinum Medallion members and Flying Blue Platinum members, and a guest traveling in Virgin Atlantic or Delta premium cabins.
  • In Johannesburg, Sky Team Elite Plus members flying Virgin Atlantic or Delta, and Virgin Australia Velocity Club Gold and Platinum members on Virgin Atlantic (no guests).

Our Take

Access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses is one of the many benefits for select passengers, and it's good to know if you are eligible to enter the lounges. Even if you're a Priority Pass member, you might want to use one of your passes to access a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse before your flight. But consider that there's a $35 surcharge per person at the LAX Clubhouse — though this still might be worth paying in the right circumstances.

Have you used a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse before one of your flights? How was your experience?
