This past May, Spirit Airlines teased that a new benefit for Free Spirit® Travel More MasterCard® would launch “later in 2025.” Well, “later in 2025” has now arrived. Starting today, September 23, 2025, primary cardholders can check up to two bags for free on every trip booked with the card.
Here’s what you need to know about the new benefit and its fine print.
Spirit Adds Checked Bags to the Spirit Travel More Mastercard
Spirit Airlines has been in the news a lot lately. But despite all the rumors about whether the airline will continue to operate, it’s largely business as usual. In fact, Spirit is still rolling out perks it promised Free Spirit members as part of a major program revamp earlier this year.
One of those perks is reserved for Spirit Travel More Mastercard cardholders, and it officially launched on September 23, 2025.
If you have the card, you can now check up to two bags for free. That includes suitcases, golf clubs, ski equipment, and more, so long as each bag weighs under 50 pounds and you book your trip online or in the Spirit app using your Spirit Travel More Mastercard.
It is no secret that checking a bag on Spirit can be expensive. Depending on your travel style, this new benefit can save you a significant amount of money over time and could easily offset the card’s modest annual fee in just one trip.

However, there are a few details to keep in mind. First, this benefit only applies to the primary cardholder, not to other travelers on your reservation. So, if you’re flying with friends or family who also need checked bags, they’ll need to pay unless they have the card themselves.
Second, your card must be linked to your Free Spirit account for the perk to apply. This process can take up to seven days after you open an account, so plan accordingly if this new benefit — along with others like priority boarding, priority check-in, and space-available upgrades — has you considering an application.
Bottom Line
Spirit Airlines committed to a program revamp earlier this year, and a big part of that was turning its co-branded Spirit Travel More Mastercard into a card you wouldn't want to travel without. So far, it is delivering on those promises.
Primary cardholders can now check up to two bags for free while also enjoying other perks like space available upgrades. If Spirit is your airline of choice, the Spirit Travel More Mastercard is one worth considering.
