TAP Air Portugal has announced a new status match, and it can be a pretty good deal for certain frequent flyers. The match awards TAP Miles&Go Silver or Gold status, which also comes with Star Alliance Silver or Gold status. Star Alliance Gold, in particular, offers some interesting benefits.
This match is especially intriguing for British Airways Silver members, which we’ll get into shortly. There are a few specific terms and restrictions to be aware of with this TAP offer, so let’s dig in.

TAP Air Portugal Match Overview
The TAP Air Portugal status match is only available to travelers with elite status in Aer Lingus, Air Europa, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Finnair, Iberia, JetBlue, KLM, LATAM, Royal Air Maroc, or WestJet.
You can see which status tiers map to TAP Silver or Gold here, but the most notable offer is that British Airways Silver and Gold both match to TAP Gold.

This means a mid-tier status like British Airways Silver matches to TAP Gold and, by extension, Star Alliance Gold. That status unlocks several valuable perks when flying Star Alliance partners (e.g., United and Air Canada), including:
- Priority airport check-in and baggage handling
- Priority boarding
- Airport lounge access
The lounge access is the most interesting benefit. It gives you and one guest access to Star Alliance business-class lounges even when you’re flying economy on partner airlines. That can be especially useful for lounges operated by United, Lufthansa, and Singapore Airlines, just to name a few.
Geographic restrictions
Unfortunately, there are a few key restrictions to keep in mind with this TAP status match. Most notably, it’s only available to residents of the following countries:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Vatican, Great Britain
As a result, this match is best suited for European residents. Unfortunately, though, U.S. residents will have to sit this one out.
Fees and how to match your status
It's easy to match your airline elite status to TAP Air Portugal, but it's not free.
- There’s a €49 fee to match to Silver and a €199 fee to match to Gold.
- Status is valid for 12 months, with the option to renew if you meet specific criteria through TAP Miles&Go.
- The match also includes a Status Booster, which awards double Status Miles for 30 days from the date of approval, up to a cap of 10,000 Status Miles.
- This offer has no published end date, but can be pulled at any time.

Should You Status Match to TAP Air Portugal?
For travelers with British Airways Silver status, the ability to match to Star Alliance Gold for €199 may be worth considering. With plenty of Star Alliance partners across Europe, frequent flyers could get solid value from the perks, especially lounge access.
