JetBlue and United launched a partnership they've named Blue Sky. Through this partnership, members can earn miles on paid bookings or redeem miles for award flights operated by either carrier. This partnership gives members of JetBlue TrueBlue and United MileagePlus fantastic access to the other airline's route network. Plus, JetBlue isn't part of a major global alliance, so this partnership is especially meaningful.
The Blue Sky partnership has officially strengthened. Starting May 14, 2026, elite members will enjoy reciprocal benefits when flying on either carrier. Here's what to know about the latest Blue Sky development.
JetBlue and United Announce Reciprocal Loyalty Benefits
Almost a year ago, JetBlue and United announced the Blue Sky partnership. In October 2025, the airlines began rolling out parts of that partnership, including the ability to earn and redeem miles on both carriers. Back in February, the airlines introduced reciprocal cash bookings — book a paid JetBlue flight through United, or a paid United flight through JetBlue. All of these steps have been meaningful for JetBlue and United loyalists.

Today, the partnership gets a whole lot better. JetBlue and United have just announced reciprocal loyalty benefits in the latest Blue Sky update.
When traveling across either airline's network, JetBlue Mosaic and MileagePlus Premier elite members who include their frequent flyer number on their booking will enjoy the following benefits:
- Priority boarding
- When traveling on JetBlue, Premier Platinum and Premier 1K members will board with Group 1. Premier Gold members will board with Group 2. Premier Silver members board with Group 3.
- When traveling on United, Mosaic 2, 3, and 4 members will board with Group 1. Mosaic 1 members will board with Group 2.
- Complimentary access to extra legroom seating at check-in
- When traveling on JetBlue, pick an EvenMore seat.
- When traveling on United, pick an Economy Plus seat.
- Priority check-in and security
- Complimentary preferred seat selection after booking
- One free checked bag and priority bag handling
- Same-day standby options
While you will still get more benefits when flying with your preferred airline, these are great incentives for a United loyalist to choose JetBlue, or vice versa. Sure, it would be nice to see reciprocal benefits like lounge access, upgrades, or confirmed extra legroom seats at booking, but it would be a bit unrealistic to expect those perks from a partnership.
At the end of the day, an airline will always incentivize people to choose its own flights, so it has to save some perks for its most loyal elites.

Bottom Line
It's been a long time coming, but United Premier elites and JetBlue Mosaic members will finally enjoy reciprocal elite benefits when flying on either airline. Luckily, this isn't the end of the Blue Sky partnership rollout. While it's hard to imagine what more United or JetBlue could offer travelers, the press release said travelers will soon be able to travel on both JetBlue and United on a single interline ticket. This unlocks better connectivity and gives travelers a seamless way to take advantage of the partnership.
For a partnership that's been around for less than a year, it's already exceeded expectations. And the timing couldn't be better — now that Spirit has ceased operations, it's clear that JetBlue will make a play to absorb as much of its old network and market share as possible. Blue Sky gives JetBlue an edge over other carriers that are doing the same.
