American Airlines allows members to earn bonus miles on Avis and Budget car rentals, and now there is a promotion for more earnings. Through October 31, 2023, earn up to 5,000 bonus miles plus double base miles and Loyalty Points. Here's how you can take advantage of this offer.
American Airlines Partnership With Car Rental Companies
Car rentals are yet another way for AAdvantage members to earn additional miles and Loyalty Points. When booking a car with Avis and Budget through the American Airlines car rental portal, members will earn 1 mile per $1 spent. Members also can earn miles with Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Payless, and Sixt when choosing to earn miles instead of points in the car rental company's rewards program.
Up to 35% Discount, 5K Bonus Miles, 5X Miles & Loyalty Points Promotion
Through October 31, 2023, AAdvantage members can earn extra miles and Loyalty Points with Avis and Budget car rentals. Avis rentals started by October 31 will have up to a 35% discount. Budget rentals get up to a 30% discount. Rentals of 3–4 days earn 2,500 bonus miles with either company. Car rentals of 5+ consecutive days earn 5,000 bonus miles.
On top of the discount and bonus miles, members also will earn up to 5x base miles and Loyalty Points on their rental, depending on their status and any American Airlines credit card they hold:
- AAdvantage members: 2 base miles/Loyalty Points per dollar spent
- AAdvantage cardholders without elite status: 3 base miles/Loyalty Points per dollar spent
- AAdvantage Gold and AAdvantage Platinum members: 4 base miles/Loyalty Points per dollar spent
- AAdvantage Platinum Pro and AAdvantage Executive Platinum members: 5 base miles/Loyalty Points per dollar spent
Note that these earning rates don't apply to Payless rentals, on which you'll earn 1 base mile and 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent.
