Planning some domestic travel in the next few months and need a rental car? Avis is giving Preferred members who register and book eligible rentals by February 28, 2025, a free rental day every time they complete two rentals of 2+ days.
If that sounds familiar, that's because Avis has run almost the same promotion in several past years. However, this year's promotion has a new twist. Here are the details.
Avis Free Rental Days Promotion
From now until February 28, 2025, Avis Preferred will award you one free rental day for every two rentals of 2+ days each. Each month, members will receive a coupon for the number of free days they earned that month. These coupons are valid between October 15, 2024 and May 18, 2025.
Note that members must redeem each coupon on a single rental. In other words, say you complete eight qualifying rentals of 2+ days in one month. You'll receive a coupon for four days. If you redeem this for a three-day rental, you'll forfeit the fourth day.
This part is new for this year: Members can register at any time before the promotion ends on February 28, 2025. After registering, they can earn the free rental days retroactively, but only within the month they register. So, if you register on December 15, you can claim free rental days on all eligible car rentals completed since December 1.

Avis Preferred members who opt into the points program earn the following:
- 1 point for every dollar spent on the car rental.
- 2 points for every dollar spent on accessories, such as car seats, SiriusXM Radio, etc.
Terms and conditions
- You must be a U.S. or Canadian resident (including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) to qualify for this promotion.
- All free rental days earned for the month will show up on your statement at the end of the month.
- Redeem rewards certificates at Avis.com or Avis.ca.
- All free rental days earned in a month must be used on the same rental. Thus, if you earn five free days in October and redeem them for a three-day rental, you forfeit the other two days.
- Free reward days aren't combinable with other coupons.

Our Take
It's nice to see the change this year to let members register at any point before the end of the promotion (not just by the end of the year) and collect free days retroactively within the month they registered.
This promotion is a good deal for anyone who's planning to rent multiple cars in the next few months. If you don't already have Avis elite status, elevate your car rental by getting Avis Preferred Status for free or completing an Avis status match. And make sure to pay with a credit card that provides built-in rental car insurance.
