Update: Delta has ended its partnership with Lyft and officially started its new partnership with Uber. Learn more about the new partnership and how to link your accounts here.

Delta is changing its rideshare partner. After an eight-year partnership with Lyft, Delta is switching to Uber, which will allow members to earn SkyMiles on select Uber rides. This partnership will go into effect soon, and the Delta and Lyft partnership will end on April 7, 2025.

Here are the details.

Delta Unveils Brand-New Partnership With Uber

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Delta announced its new partnership with Uber. Starting in spring 2025, Delta SkyMiles members will earn miles on qualifying Uber rides.

“Delta is thrilled to come together with Uber to create a connected travel experience from start to finish,” said Delta CEO, Ed Bastian. “This partnership creates more choice for customers to get to their destination in a way that works best for them.”

Uber is the largest rideshare platform, offering several billion rides a year, 15% of which begin or end at the airport. Until now, Uber has not partnered with any U.S. airlines. Flying Blue members can earn TrueBlue points on Uber rides, but only in France and the Netherlands.

Members will earn up to 3X miles per dollar on the following rides or orders:

  • 3X miles on Uber Reserve trips
  • 2X miles on premium Uber rides (Uber Black, Uber XL, and Uber Comfort)
  • 1X miles on UberX rides to and from airports
  • 1X miles on eligible Uber Eats orders $4o or more

SkyMiles are earned on the base fare of the trip or Uber Eats order, excluding taxes, tips, and other fees. At this time, members will not earn SkyMiles on Uber rides to or from the airport that are not UberX.

The partnership will go into effect in spring, but we don't have an exact date yet. Presumably, members will start earning SkyMiles on Uber rides on April 7, 2025, which is the date when members stop earning miles on Lyft rides.

SkyMiles members can join the waitlist to be notified as soon as they can link their account with Uber.

Delta Will Cut Ties With Lyft This April

The beginning of Delta's partnership with Uber will spell the end of Delta's partnership with Lyft. After April 7, 2025, SkyMiles members will no longer earn miles on Lyft rides. However, until the change goes into effect, members with their accounts linked to Lyft will still earn miles on eligible rides as usual.

If you prefer Lyft over Uber, rest assured Lyft still has several other partners with which you can earn airline miles or hotel points on qualifying activities.

Our Take

Soon, SkyMiles members can link their account to Uber and earn miles on eligible rides and Uber Eats orders. When that happens, make sure to use one of the best credit cards for travel purchases.

This is a logical step for Delta. Uber canceled its loyalty program in 2024, and it's not easy to earn bonus points or miles with Uber rides beyond the existing Marriott partnership.

On the other hand, SkyMiles were not the most valuable rewards one could earn on Lyft rides. In other words, Lyft members might not miss Delta as an earning partner, as there were several more valuable options, including but limited to earning bonus Bilt Rewards Points, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles, and more.
