If you're one to take Uber rides or order from Uber Eats, it's worth leveraging the Marriott-Uber partnership. Since 2021, the two brands have allowed Marriott Bonvoy members to earn Marriott points on qualifying Uber purchases.
This partnership was revamped in October 2024, and the earning rates on purchases were watered down. However, this came alongside a new perk: you can now parlay an Uber One membership into complimentary Marriott elite status.
With some smart planning, you can stack this points-earning ability with the additional earnings you get from a credit card optimized for rideshare or food delivery orders. Here's what you need to know about the Marriott-Uber partnership.

Earn Marriott Points on Uber Rides and Uber Eats Orders
Whether you hail a ride using the Uber app or use Uber Eats to source a meal, you can earn Marriott Bonvoy points on your purchase. Travelers can link their Uber and Marriott accounts to earn at the following rates on Uber rides and food deliveries within the U.S.:
- 3X Bonvoy points on Premium Uber rides (includes UberXL, Uber Black, Uber SUV, and Uber Comfort).
- 2X Bonvoy points on UberX Reserve rides.
- 1X Bonvoy points on Uber Eats food or grocery orders of $40 or more.
- 2X Bonvoy points on Uber Eats restaurant or grocery orders of $40 or more for delivery to Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, and Element Hotels.
It's worth noting that before October 14, 2024, these rates were a little better. On that day, the Marriott-Uber partnership was amended, resulting in new benefits for those who link their accounts.
How To Link Your Marriott and Uber Accounts
You'll need to link your accounts if you want to earn bonus Marriott points on Uber, Uber Eats, and Uber Grocery purchases. Here's how to do that.
First, you must have both an Uber account with a valid U.S.-based phone number and a Marriott Bonvoy account to earn Bonvoy points on Uber purchases. You can sign up for both by using this link.
After your accounts are set up, you will need to link them. You can do so here or in the Uber app. Once linked, you will earn Bonvoy points on both Uber and Uber Eats purchases. Here's a breakdown of the five-step process.
- To start, click “Account” on the bottom right-hand side of your Uber app.
- Select “Partner Rewards.”
- Tap on the tile that says, “Earn Marriott Bonvoy points with Uber in the US.”
- Click “Link account.”
- Log in to your Marriott Bonvoy account when prompted.
After linking, you'll receive confirmation that you're ready to earn bonus points.
Subscribe to Uber One, Get Marriott Silver Elite Status
Uber One is Uber's paid membership program. By paying $9.99 monthly or $96 annually, Uber users unlock $0 delivery fees on eligible food and grocery orders, up to 10% off eligible deliveries and pickup orders, waived cancellation fees, and up to 6% in Uber One credits on Uber rides.
On top of all that, Uber One annual subscribers can get Marriott Silver Elite status for free. After you link your accounts, your Marriott account will automatically update to reflect your new status. Until you cancel your Uber One membership, you can enjoy perks like 10% bonus points on stays and priority for late checkout requests.
Other ways to get Marriott elite status
If you don't have Marriott elite status, it's easy to get, so keep this in mind before you subscribe to Uber One just for the complimentary status. For example, all of Marriott's credit cards afford some tier of elite status — even those without an annual fee.
Another option is to apply for a premium rewards card like the American Express Platinum Card®. With this card, you'll get Marriott Gold elite status, plus several other perks. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.
Alternatively, if you have United Airlines, Air Canada, or Singapore Airlines elite status, you can potentially parlay that status into Marriott elite status via preferred partnership programs.
Is Uber One the best way to get Marriott elite status? No. But if you don't have another means of attaining Marriott status and don't want to apply for a credit card, or don't have airline elite status, then it's a handy option.
How To Maximize Your Uber and Uber Eats Purchases
One of the best aspects of the Marriott-Uber partnership is that Marriott Bonvoy points are earned in addition to the points you will earn from spending on a credit card. This means you should use a card with a rideshare bonus category when you reserve an Uber ride, or one of the best cards for dining and restaurants if you order through Uber Eats.
If you're considering taking advantage of this partnership, here are two cards worth using to pay for your Uber or Uber Eats purchases:
American Express® Gold Card
The American Express® Gold Card earns its place as one of the best rewards cards for dining and restaurants. You'll earn 4X Membership Rewards points at restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 in eligible spending per year). This earning rate (and cap) also applies to U.S. takeout and delivery services like Uber Eats. On top of that, you will now earn up to 2X Marriott Bonvoy points on Uber Eats orders of $40+ to select Marriott properties.
The Amex Gold card also comes with a $10 monthly Uber Cash allowance. By adding your Amex Gold to your Uber account, you'll get $10 in Uber Cash at the start of each month. And you should still be able to earn Marriott points when using Uber Cash credits to order food.
Amex Disclosure: To receive $10 monthly credits (up to $120 per year) in Uber Cash, you must add the American Express® Gold Card to your Uber account and select it as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction.

Final Thoughts
The Marriott-Uber partnership may not be as rewarding as before. But despite the cuts, it's refreshing to see these types of partnerships allowing members to earn more points than ever on what we already spend money on.

There is an issue. There are multiple exclusions that prevent points from being added from Uber uses. I have not received any Marriott points in over a year.

I’d updated the Uber app (Android) but still wasn’t seeing the place to put the Marriott account. Turns out I somehow wasn’t running the updated app, even though I’d closed it. Relaunched the app and was able to link the accounts. It did have me confused.

Cool passive benefit. I’ll probably do a one-time Uber Eats order to get the extra points, but looking through local restaurants, I see a lot of inflated prices (even for picking up food rather than getting delivery).

I sure hope this blog post gets me a few miles on American so my 190,000+ miles don’t expire. Shame on American for still keeping an 18 month expiration on miles when United, Delta and Southwest have all eliminated miles expiration. American was always shabby for having 18 months expiration when the other airlines let you go 24 months.

It is still a benefit, even if the expenses with Uber, in general, are not very significant in the monthly budget.

Easy way to earn some extra points from existing Uber usage. And it looks like this is a counter to the Lyft and Hilton / Delta relationship.
Let’s see if I can use this in Canada (with my US phone number and US Uber account). With Lyft, I can earn Hilton points, but not Delta.
I signed up right away and I have both cards that will let me maximize my earnings. I haven’t yet signed up for the Uber East pass through my Amex Gold card. That’s next on my to-do list.
I got the impression that I would no longer earn the Uber points now that I’ll be earning Marriott points. I hope I’m wrong.
I just reviewed it again, and I see nothing in the terms that suggests you won’t still be able to earn Uber Rewards, Uber’s in-house loyalty points program. We should be good accumulating both.
