If you’ve got a Southwest credit card and plan to put some serious spending on it this quarter, we've got just the promotion for you.
Targeted cardholders can unlock the chance to earn 30% bonus points — up to 20,000 bonus points — after meeting the spending threshold. These are Companion Pass-qualifying points, so you can potentially put a sizable dent in your progress toward earning one of the best perks in award travel with this offer.
Here’s what to know and how to register.
Earn 30% Bonus Points After Spending on Your Southwest Credit Card
The newest Southwest credit card spending offer gives targeted, enrolled cardholders the chance to earn 30% bonus points after spending between July 1 and September 30, 2026. Once you hit the spend threshold, you’ll earn bonus points on all eligible purchases — up to 20,000 bonus points.
But there is a catch. Not only is the offer targeted — meaning not everyone will get the offer — but the spend threshold is also variable.
While I didn't get the promotion this quarter, a family member did — requiring at least $3,000 in spending to get the 30% bonus points. However, reports indicate that the spend threshold can vary, with as high as $45,000 in spend required.
It goes without saying that those with high thresholds would be less enthused about this offer, but if you are targeted at a more reasonable $3,000 worth of spending, this can be a nice way to earn even more Rapid Rewards.
These bonus points count towards the Companion Pass
In addition, these bonus points will count toward earning the Southwest Companion Pass but not toward A-List or A-List Preferred qualification. And it's worth noting that all purchases in the promotional period count as long as you register, even if you register on September 30.

Terms and conditions
- Targeted members must register for this promotion at any time during the promotional period.
- After registering, spend at least the targeted minimum amount on eligible purchases by September 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Then, earn 30% bonus points on up to a maximum of 20,000 bonus points through September 30, 2026.
- Bonus points count towards a Companion Pass but not A-List or A-List Preferred qualification.
- Accounts will receive bonus points within 8 weeks of the promotional period.
- Eligible purchases do not include balance transfers, cash advances, traveler's checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, racetrack wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.
- This promotion is only for targeted Southwest cardholders and is non-transferable.
Our Take
If you have a reasonable spending threshold for this bonus or plan to spend on your Southwest credit card in the third quarter of 2026, it's worth enrolling in this new card spending promotion. Once you hit the threshold, you'll unlock 30% bonus points on eligible purchases through the end of September — up to 20,000 bonus points. If the Companion Pass is on your radar, this is a nice boost.
Just be sure to register at any point between now and September 30, 2026, so that you don't miss out.

Does anyone know if the 30% bonus posts on the statement after you hit the $6k spend? Or does it only post after the promo period is over? I’m close to hitting the 125k points hits year, and the 30% should put me over the top.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t count on the 30% bonus to help you this year. The T&C say that the bonus points will post 8 weeks after the end of the promotion – but they might end up posting before that.
Also, if you’re counting on Southwest card spending, make sure to triple-check your credit card statement closing date for December and make sure purchases post by then.
I’m definitely going to try and go for this deal. I am wanting to visit hawaii when the pandemic calms down, and this is a great way to get more miles to get there! I appreciate this post awardwallet!
As southwest and every other airline should do during the pandemic. Good to give customers so loyalty on the other side!

Similar extensions will keep coming in 2021. People will not travel en masse next year.
Are you sure on getting 100k points by 31 Dec using bonus as part? If bonus posts in 4+ weeks, wont early Dec post in Jan at earliest and not count for 2020 CP?
HELP! My targeted offer was 15k spend from 8/1 – 10/31 and as of next week when my statement closes I will have made it. The bonus points will get me to companion pass. The PROBLEM is that this morning when I signed into my Southwest account, the promo that I registered for is GONE, as is the supermarket spend. There is now a new promo for 25k spend between 10/1 – 12/31. I am extremely upset. Any ideas on who to contact? I had active promos that have disappeared and now 2 new ones.

Southwest isnt normally my go-to airline. I usually am stuck with American but I think I should start looking into southwest more as bags fly free and they have good destinations in USA

With all such targeted promotions it would be nice to know how broad or narrow the targeted group is. Perhaps AW could place a poll on such articles and folks could respond to get a sense of the offer.
