While status matching airline and car rental cars is pretty common, the Sixt tie-in with Delta Gold Medallion members is quite interesting. Delta Gold Medallion (or higher) members can now leverage their status to Sixt’s Platinum, the top tier of its reward program.
When you sign up for Sixt’s Express Loyalty Program as a Gold Medallion or higher, you are eligible for an immediate upgrade to their top-tier of membership. All that needs to be done is to input your Delta SkyMiles number and upload an image of your statement or Credentials, and you will automatically be upgraded to Platinum.
While the Delta upgrade is automatic, Sixt has other partnerships in the U.S. and top tier members of other programs should also expect to be able to leverage Sixt Platinum status. Programs include but are not restricted to:
- Delta SkyMiles Gold Medallion and higher
- World of Hyatt Globalist
- Virgin America Elevate Gold
- Hilton Honors Diamond
- Avis Preferred First Plus
- Avis President’s Club
- Best Western Rewards Diamond
- Hertz Platinum Club
- Hertz President’s Circle
Sixt Platinum members enjoy many perks, including double upgrades, with no restrictions on types or class of cars that can be upgraded. For families traveling together, the bonus of a free additional driver in the U.S. is also quite attractive.
What makes this deal interesting is the fact that as a German rental car company, Sixt has an exciting fleet of luxury German vehicles. Coupled with their cheap pricing, it makes them an exciting prospect as a platinum member, and thanks to the double upgrade policy you can rent a Mercedes Benz C-class or BMW 5 series for almost the same price as a Chevrolet Impala or similar.
Even though Sixt’s presence is not as widespread as Avis or Hertz at airports, they still have a sufficiently large coverage to make them an attractive and interesting option.
