Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) and Mr & Mrs Smith properties are two collections of luxury hotels around the world. The intertwined history between both programs — as well as Hyatt and Hilton hotel brands — has been complicated over the past couple of years.
Hyatt and SLH had a partnership from 2018 until May 2024, allowing World of Hyatt members to earn and redeem points at a collection of SLH properties. When Hyatt bought Mr & Mrs Smith in 2023, the Hyatt-SLH arrangement looked to be in jeopardy. In fact, that came to fruition as SLH flipped to Hilton, establishing a strong relationship and now giving Hilton Honors members the ability to earn and redeem points through SLH.
Despite the separate relationships between Hyatt and Mr & Mrs Smith vs. Hilton and SLH, there are several properties that participate in both programs and thus can be booked with Hilton or Hyatt points. By booking through the right program, you can get a lot more value from your points.
Here's a comparison of 65 properties bookable through either SLH or Mr & Mrs Smith.

Methodology
- I searched all properties for June 1, 2025 unless that date was unavailable, in which case I found a close date available.
- June 1st would be a more popular, “peak” date for most of the world, so cash prices may reflect that. These same hotels may be bookable for much cheaper rates on other dates.
- I compared standard rooms, but looking at suite award options could be a valuable comparison.
- There may be some variance between the two programs based on room type and fees.
- There were a few properties that, despite having rooms on cash, I couldn't find award redemptions available.
World of Hyatt Value at Mr & Mrs Smith Properties
When Mr & Mrs Smith joined Hyatt, there was hope in getting the type of value from these luxury properties that World of Hyatt enthusiasts are used to getting. However, when Hyatt announced that award pricing would be dynamic, it became clear these redemptions may not be so sweet.
In the 65 hotels compared in the chart above, Hyatt redemptions range from 0.81¢ to 1.65¢ per point, with the average around 1.33¢ per point. That's a far cry from AwardWallet users' average redemption rate of 2.19¢ per point. This doesn't evoke much enthusiasm for using Hyatt points at these properties.
Hilton Honors Point Value at Small Luxury Hotel Properties
When looking at the same properties through Hilton Honors, we see redemption rates ranging from 0.37-1.39¢ per point with an average of 0.64¢ per point. Half of the properties have a redemption rate above AwardWallet users' average value of 0.59¢ per point.
There are exceptional values to be had at properties such as Hermitage Bay (1.26¢), The Rebello (1.13¢), and The Roseate (1.39¢). Considering you can sometimes buy Hilton points for 0.5¢ per point, you could create great value by buying points rather than paying cash directly. For example, buying the 105,000 Hilton points necessary to redeem at Le Grand Bellevue in Switzerland would cost $525 when buying points at 0.5¢ each. That's nearly half the $940 cash rate.
It should also be noted that Hilton's fifth night free benefit can be utilized at SLH properties, potentially increasing the value here by 20%. Likewise, you can use Hilton Free Night certificates earned on cards like the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card and Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card cards, reducing the points needed. These two features give Hilton a leg up on Hyatt when booking these same properties.

Final Thoughts
The data here is not very surprising, considering what we have learned about the relationship Hilton and Hyatt have formed with these independent brands. Mr & Mrs Smith properties are generally not worth using Hyatt points to book. Meanwhile, Hilton points generally provide better value than even some of Hilton's own properties.
Having said that, it's worth factoring in your source of points. The ability to use Chase Ultimate Rewards (transferred to Hyatt), Amex Membership Rewards (transferred to Hilton), or Bilt Rewards (which transfer to both) will still help save money at these luxury hotels.
Say you've accumulated 100,000 Bilt points. Even though SLH properties provide higher than average value from Hilton Honors points, you'll get much better value by transferring Bilt points to Hyatt rather than Hilton to redeem to book one of these properties.
The biggest takeaway here is that you can book dozens of luxury hotels with either World of Hyatt or Hilton Honors points. Both programs price awards dynamically. So, comparing rates for your travel dates to potentially uncover a great deal, booking with either Hyatt or Hilton.
