Who’s Eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Cards?
Both American Express and Chase issue Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit cards. This creates extra complexity in determining who is eligible for which Marriott Bonvoy credit cards.
For American Express-issued Marriott cards, you'll need to mind the following rules:
- You can hold a maximum of five Amex credit cards at any time.
- Maximum of two new Amex credit cards in a 90-day period.
- Once-per-lifetime rules mean you can't get a welcome bonus on a card that you've had in the past.
For the Chase-issued cards above, you'll need to mind the following rules:
- If you've opened five or more credit cards in the previous 24 months from any card issuer, it is extremely unlikely you will be approved when applying for a new Chase card.
- You're unlikely to be approved for more than two Chase credit cards in a 30-day period.
And then there are the specific rules for Marriott credit cards. These apply across the two banks, and they are intricate enough that they deserve their own post about Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit card application rules. You'll need to look at what card you want and its restrictions related to other cards you've held in the past (or at present).
