Wells Fargo Rewards points do not expire while your eligible credit card account remains open. However, closing a card can cause you to forfeit rewards associated with that account, so it's important to redeem or combine eligible rewards before closing a card.

Here's how the Wells Fargo Rewards expiration policy works, what happens to your points when you close a card, and how to avoid forfeiting rewards.

Wells Fargo Rewards Points Expiration Policy

Wells Fargo Rewards do not expire as long as your card remains open. Per the Wells Fargo Rewards terms and conditions:

“Points do not expire while this Credit Card account is open.”

The good news here is that you don't have to worry about account inactivity rules. As long as your card account is open, you are safe from points forfeiture.

However, if you close your account, you will lose all your earned and pending points on the day your credit card account is closed. Per the Wells Fargo Rewards terms and conditions:

“If You close Your Credit Card account, or if it is closed for any reason, You will forfeit Your Points and any Pending Points the day Your Credit Card account is closed”

Thankfully, Wells Fargo makes it easy to redeem your points online. So, if you are going to close your account, make sure to use them first. Either by transferring them to travel partners or redeeming them as a statement credit, so you don’t lose your points.
