Rarely does a day go by that Bilt Rewards doesn't add a new partnership or expand on an existing one. And the Bilt partnership news du jour is an expansion of its relationship with United Airlines. Effective immediately, your United MileagePlus credit card just became more rewarding for paying rent.
With this expansion, you can now earn 2X United MileagePlus miles when you pay rent through Bilt Rewards with one of five eligible United credit cards. This, of course, is if you're willing to pay a convenience fee to earn these rewards.
Here's what to know about paying rent with a United credit card and how to do it.

United Cardholders: Earn 2X Miles on Bilt Rent Payments
If you're familiar with the rewards Bilt offers for rent payments made with an Alaska Airlines credit card, you'll have a good idea of what Bilt now offers for United Airlines credit cards. With United, Bilt is rewarding MileagePlus cardholders with 2X miles per $1 spent on rent.
And this is a big deal for a couple of reasons.
First, this creates an easy way for United cardholders to earn 2X miles per $1 spent on rent on up to $50,000 in rent payments per calendar year. That's up to 100,000 bonus United MileagePlus miles every 12 months on what's more than likely your biggest monthly expense, if you're a renter.
Second, if you're working toward United Premier elite status this year, paying rent with a consumer United credit card that carries an annual fee means you'll also earn Premier Qualifying Points. Depending on the card, you'll earn either 1 PQP per $15 or $20 spent.

The catch is that, unlike paying rent with The Bilt Mastercard® (Rates & Fees) (no longer open to new applicants), you'll still be on the hook for a 3% convenience fee. And you won't earn additional Bilt Points the way you would if you paid with a third-party credit card.
To illustrate how this works, say you make a $2,000 rent payment with your United Quest℠ Card (Rates & Fees) through Bilt. You'll earn 4,000 MileagePlus miles, but you'll pay $60 in fees (3% of $2,000).

How to Earn 2X United Miles on Rent Through Bilt
If this Bilt-United news has you thinking about switching your rewards-earning preference before your next rent payment, here are the steps to take:
- Add your eligible United card to your Bilt account.
- Set that United card as your preferred rent payment method.
- Pay your rent on time through Bilt.
Your rewards will post as two separate transactions, each for 1X rewards. The first will show up in your United MileagePlus account labeled “Bilt Rent Cardmember Bonus Miles.” The second will appear on your credit card statement in the “United MileagePlus Award Miles Summary.”
And remember that Bilt members can earn rewards on up to $50,000 in rent payments per calendar year.

Which United cards are eligible for bonus miles on rent payments?
There are plenty of United cards out there, but only the following five consumer cards are eligible to earn 2X MileagePlus miles per $1 spent on rent. They are:
- United Gateway℠ Card (Rates & Fees)
- United℠ Explorer Card (Rates & Fees)
- United Quest℠ Card (Rates & Fees)
- United Club℠ Card (Rates & Fees)
- United℠ Presidential Plus℠ Card
United cards tailored to small business owners are not eligible for 2X miles on rent payments.

- 2X miles per $1 spent on purchases from United®
- 2X miles per $1 spent on dining and hotel stays when booked with the hotel
- 1X mile per $1 spent on all other purchases

- 5 miles per $1 spent at Renowned Hotels and Resorts
- 3 miles per $1 spent on United® purchases
- 2 miles per $1 spent on all other travel
- 2 miles per $1 spent at restaurants
- 2 miles per $1 spent on select streaming services
- 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases

- Earn 4 miles per $1 spent on United® purchases
- Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on all other travel
- Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on dining
- Earn 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases
Final Thoughts
It's now twice as rewarding to pay rent through Bilt with a United Airlines credit card. And that's a big deal if you're looking for more ways to earn MileagePlus miles or need some extra PQPs.
That said, make sure you crunch the numbers before switching your rent payment method. Paying rent with a United credit card through Bilt means you'll have to pay a 3% convenience fee. And while the miles you earn can outweigh that added cost if you redeem them strategically, it's still extra money you'll be spending on rent.
For some, it'll be worth it. For others, you might be better off saving the cash and avoiding convenience fees altogether (and still earning Bilt Points) by paying rent with the Bilt Mastercard.
