It's becoming increasingly clear that you don't need a Bilt credit card to earn points and miles on rent payments. Starting today, Air France KLM Visa Signature® Credit Card holders can earn 3X Flying Blue miles on rent payments made through the Bilt platform, up to $50,000 spent each year. This is a great option for cardholders who want a boost of miles or are working toward status.

Here's what to know about earning Flying Blue miles on rent.

Air France KLM Visa Cardholders: Earn 3X Miles on Bilt Rent Payments

Bilt now gives Air France KLM Visa cardholders the option to earn 3X Flying Blue miles per $1 spent on rent through Bilt, up to $50,000 spent each year. After that, you'll earn 1.5 Flying Blue miles per $1 spent. However, even if you only reach that $50,000 maximum, you'll earn a whopping 150,000 Flying Blue miles each year. Note that, for now, this is only valid for rent, not mortgage payments.

If you're unfamiliar, this is the third time that Bilt has extended the ability to earn rewards on rent payments to other cardholders. In 2024, Bilt introduced rent earnings to the Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® card, and at the end of 2025, Bilt extended the ability to United cardholders.

Use Rent to Fast Track Elite Status

If you're working toward Air France-KLM Flying Blue elite status, paying rent with your card might make it easier to meet the spending requirement to earn bonus Experience Points (Flying Blue's elite status credits).

As an Air France KLM Visa cardholder, you already receive 20 XP every year on your account anniversary. If you spend $15,000 or more in your account anniversary year, you can earn an additional 80 XP. Once you spend $25,000 in an anniversary year, you'll earn an additional 60 XP, for a total of 160 XP.

You only need 100 XP to reach Flying Blue Silver, which comes with perks like priority check-in and baggage, SkyTeam Elite status, extra baggage allowance, and extra legroom seats within 24 hours of departure. You need 180 XP to reach Flying Blue Gold, which comes with even better perks like lounge access, Sky Priority travel services, and economy comfort seats available 72 hours before departure.

Assuming your rent is at least $2,100 per month, you can easily earn 160 XP on rent alone, which gets you just 20 XP away from Flying Blue Gold. You can then earn those extra XP through travel. For instance, a one-way nonstop flight from New York (JFK) to Paris (CDG) would earn 10 XP in economy, 20 XP in premium economy, or 30 XP in business.

Keep in mind that if you have Bilt Platinum elite status, you can also unlock Flying Blue Gold status for 12 months when you transfer 10,000 Bilt Points to Flying Blue.

Should You Earn 3X Flying Blue Miles on Rent Through Bilt?

To earn Flying Blue miles on your rent payments, all you need to do is add your Air France KLM Visa to your Bilt Wallet and pay your rent through the standard Bilt process with your card selected as the payment method. But should you take advantage of this ability?

When you pay rent using a third-party credit card, you are subject to a 3% fee. Let's say your rent payment is $2,000 each month. If you decide to use your Air France KLM Visa, you'll earn 6,000 Flying Blue miles, but you'll also pay a $60 fee. Note that you will also earn 3X miles on the transaction fee.

On average, AwardWallet users redeem Flying Blue miles for 2.17¢ apiece, which means 6,180 miles (6,000 base miles and 180 from the fee) are worth roughly $134. Assuming you value Flying Blue miles the same way, you can definitely get more value from your earnings than you'll pay in fees.

Before signing up for the Air France KLM Visa just to earn 3X Flying Blue miles on rent payments, compare your spending habits and travel goals against Bilt's three credit cards. Although Bilt cardholders only earn up to 1.25X Bilt Points on rent and mortgage payments, you'll be able to transfer those rewards to 23 transfer partners, including Flying Blue. If you really want to earn lucrative rewards on rent payments, a Bilt card might be a better fit.

Final Thoughts

The ability to earn 3X Flying Blue miles on what might be your biggest expense every month is certainly nothing to scoff at. If you live in a big city, you might pay $3,000 or more on rent, which totals $36,000 per year. Who doesn't want the option to net 108,000 Flying Blue miles from that expense?

However, be sure to factor in the additional $1,080 you'd spend in transaction fees over the course of the year. In this case, you're essentially buying Flying Blue miles for 1¢ apiece, so make sure you're confident you can redeem them for more than that.
